Publisher's summary

Ah, the road of homeschooling. It's a lovely ride filled with togetherness, freedom, and the knowledge that you journey down the road in whatever style you feel is right. But consider yourself forewarned. As beautiful as the drive is, you might get carsick along the way.

Join Amy Dingmann, homeschooling mom of two, as she discusses the potholes and roadblocks along the Homeschooling Highway:

  • What is the real socialization question we should all be asking?
  • How do we get rid of our homeschooling doubt and guilt?
  • How do homeschooling parents get any time to themselves?
  • What is a parent's responsibility when it comes to homeschooling?
  • Why can't homeschoolers get along with each other?
  • Do labels really matter?
  • How do I handle my family and friends who don't agree with homeschooling?
  • What in the world does my significant other really think about what I'm doing?

Hop in your Minivan of Awesome and get ready for an honest (but hilarious!) look at how to deal with life on the Homeschooling Highway...without getting carsick!

A must listen for all homeschool parents

The book is spot on and witty and encouraging. Amy nails so many situations in which we find ourselves in over the years and she offers encouragement to know it isn’t just us. I appreciate that the chapters were short and sweet. It kept me company on a plane ride but I have listened to it again while cooking and my husband and kids wandered in and laughed too. Wonderful book and a great investment of your time to listen to.

Not your average book on homeschooling

This is unlike any other book I have read on homeschooling so far. Ms. Dingman really dug into some of the nuances of homeschooling that isn't typically talked about, and it was a breath of fresh air. She doesn't flaunt the idea of "homeschool is the ultimate best way and here is how you do it" like I have previously found. I love her perspective on life in general and homeschool in particular. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and will be passing it onto others.

Wonderful!!

I love how perfectly condensed and information packed this little book is. It’s full of wit and humor to make your read fun and enjoyable while going beneath the surface to talk about the nitty gritty not so fun details that another homeschooling information book might not talk about, in favor of pointing a spotlight on every single great thing about homeschooling. This is the real talk I feel like you would hear at a homeschool get together from the mom of 8 kids, veteran homeschooler of 18+ years who’s been though it all and is ready to just speak all the truth to you, the good and the bad. So give it a listen if you want real, upfront, truthful advice about the good the bad and potentially ugly parts of homeschooling, with a spoonful of humor, wit, and encouragement to make it go down smooth. Can’t wait for the rest of this series!!

Highly Insightful

Amy Dingmann gives an honest breakdown of a homeschooling journey in “the mini van of awesome.” Even for those who chose not to homeschool, she shows how to navigate the varying, changing needs of school age children. I laughed out loud more than once at her honest wit. Highly recommended reading for all parents.

A helpful guide through the bumps on the homeschool highway

I have enjoyed Amy’s podcasts, books, and blog through the years, so I was glad to listen to her first audiobook!

Amy’s voice is great to listen to; I loved the snarky voice she used for naysayers. I especially appreciated the voice she gave to spouses and the reminders along the way that homeschooling is a choice, and does change, eventually coming to an end. Even as a seasoned homeschooling mom, I walked away with valuable nuggets and a few things to reflect on for my own journey.

Audio quality is great, exactly what I appreciate from her podcasts - clean & not crackly.

I’d recommend this book to anyone who is homeschooling or considering homeschooling.

Funny!

I’m a second-generation homeschooler so I can feel like I’ve aged out of books that discuss the ins and outs of homeschooling, but because I enjoy Amy Dingmann’s podcasts, with their trademark blend of insight, wit and down-right snark, I gave this book a whirl and was happy to find it had no shortage of these pleasures. I listened to the book with a wry smile as she touched on how we as homeschoolers want it all the ways at once. I especially appreciated her slightly more serious foray into a less-discussed homeschool topic - how husbands honestly feel about their wives’ homeschool undertaking - that was food for thought. All said, a good, funny listen to a topic that is often treated so preciously.

Funny and realistic view of homeschooling

I really liked this book, and found it very down to earth and funny. A true picture of homeschooling, complete with all it’s messes. Worth doing, but never what you think it will be! Worth a listen to for sure :)
