A great one to listen to on Audibles...

a great book to listen to even just 5 minutes a day. I plan to listen to it again.. and repeating the exercises!

Exceptional!

I have had perfectionist behavior since high school. I have been fighting it off and constantly analyzing why perfectionism was affecting me negatively. This (audio)book, however, gave me the psychological tools to further reflect upon my perfectionism and how to combat it most efficiently. Thank you to Damon Zahariades and Joe Hempel!

An insightful guide

What made the experience of listening to The Joy of Imperfection the most enjoyable?

I found this book helpful in pointing out why perfectionism actually makes life harder for myself and sometimes harder for the people around me. The author shares many personal life experiences that illustrate these points and how he overcame this tendency.

What other book might you compare The Joy of Imperfection to and why?

This book was similar in non-preachy tone and practical content to Shad Helmstetter's "What To Say When You Talk To Yourself."

What about Joe Hempel’s performance did you like?

Joe Hempel's delivery is easy to listen to and uplifting.

Highly liberating, both in context and delivery.

Another fine work by an author who's been in the trenches.
An entertaining, and informative excursion into possibilities
that are unleashed when we kiss the concept of perfection
goodbye!

Life changing!

This book felt like it was speaking directly to me. I love that it’s short and practical and gives you real advice on how to make changes in trying to be perfect. I was paralyzed with fear everyday in a new job and after getting defensive after every critique from my boss, I was desperate for help. I love how this guy didn’t go into the psychology of it. It’s like, “accept you’re a perfectionist. Got it? Why are you like this? Not important. What’s important is how to retrain your brain to enjoy life.” I’m so thankful someone wrote this book for me!

Everyone NEEDS to hear this Encouragement at least once in their lives.

So eye opening how we all obsess over being perfect. I’m guilty of many of these things mentioned and have missed out on so much. I’ll listen to this many times, if just for the encouragement and lessons. Practice begins now. Blessings.

Life changing book! Short, but powerful!

Perfectionism has become a serious problem for me. This book is the first that has truly helped me, starting after reading just a few pages.
In the first part, the author explains the high expectations perfectionists have for themselves. After reading these, I saw how impossible and ridiculously high these standards are! But that's what I aimed for!
In the second part, he explains how perfectionism hurts a person's physical, mental, and emotional health, their personal and professional relationships, and even their productivity and creativity. The author makes his point so clearly and logically that I recognized attributes of my personality I hadn't faced. This strengthened my motivation to make changes.
The last part has short exercises to help the reader turn from perfectionism to a more rational way of thinking. These teach how to quiet our "inner critic." There are great strategies to help perfectionists change how they think about and perform tasks.
After reading this book, and using the strategies and exercises, I'm getting my life back!

Fabulously practical and informative!

Having struggled with perfectionism all my life, I had yet to find a book that practically and effectively showed me how to heal from perfectionism. But this book broke the mold; I now have the tools I need to stand up to my inner critic. I have already noticed an improvement in my stress levels and mood. I have a long way to go, but this book has given me the confidence to make the changes I need to make. I highly recommend it!!!

Repetitive, boring, waste of time

Don’t waste your time or money. Instead look up “gamification” and the “Pareto principal” and go from there.

The book just keeps talking about “what is going to happen later in the book”. There is nothing useful in here besides possibly the exercises... but they’re not very effectively communicated via audiobook- would work better to see them written down. Even then only a couple of these exercises seemed usable. The only helpful information was mention of Pareto principal and gamification but there is not enough info on either in this book to truly be helpful.
