A BBC 2 Between the Covers Book Club Pick

James is 34 and fed up. His six-year relationship with Adam has imploded, he hates his job making up celebrity gossip, and his best friend Bella has just announced she's moving to Russia.

Adrift and single in loved-up London, James needs to break out of his lonely, drunken comfort zone. Encouraged by Bella, he throws himself headlong into online dating, blogging each encounter anonymously as the mysterious Romeo.

After meeting a succession of hot/weird/gross men, James has fans and the validation he's always craved. But when his wild night with a closeted Olympian goes viral and sends his Twitter-fame through the roof, James realises maybe, in the search for happy-ever-after, some things are better left un-shared. Seriously, wherefore art thou Romeo....

From Justin Myers, author of sensational blog The Guyliner, this razor-sharp and cringingly candid account of one man's quest for 'The One' is as sad, fearless and funny as dating itself.

Nice listen

I enjoyed the story a great deal and the narration by the sublime Joe Jameson was perfection. I felt there were a few things that were left hanging at the end so that why only 4 stars. A little more spice would have been appreciated as well

Meh

Aside from the women, I felt practically every character in this story is unlikeable. By the end, I could I stand barely any of the characters, but especially both Jim and Nate. Why is everyone so unlikeable?! Joe Jameson is great narrator, though.

Im beside myself

Okay, so Joe Jameson is going on my favorites list for narration....but onto the story.

It’s definitely worth the listen. Like 100 percent. But if you don’t like your chest aching and only getting a semi happy ending, brace yourself.

I literally got my heart broken twice while listening to this book, like viciously.....I’m still kind of reeling from my heartbreaks and was only somewhat satisfied with the ending, not because it was bad, but because I’m a greedy b word and I was left wanting soooooooooo much more. I wanted to be part of the happily ever after not just see the beginning of it and then be left high and dry after going through all this heart ache I went through with the MC . The MC was so well written, flaws and all and I couldn’t help but be there with him, rooting for him, being patient with his sometimes idiotic choices and I wanted to be a part of his win. I wanted to get to know the mysterious end game person and what happened with their relationship and why he and MC connected.

I would be so so so happy if there were a book two that delved into that and how MC got past the remainder of his hang ups and made it work with the umm...last Romeo...

Great story and narration

Honestly I could listen to Joe Jameson narrate anything, he’s so good. But couple that with a charming story and you can’t go wrong! Highly recommended.

The story needed focus

The book was more of a character study than a narrative. So if you’re looking for a romance, look elsewhere. Still, a decent story though.
