Die Hard in the worst storm ever.

Aside from being a little heavy handed with the global warming message, The Last Storm is one heck of an action packed story. As the title of my review says, it's like Die Hard in the middle of the worst storm ever. It's officer Alex Riley's first day on the job and as a massive storm rolls in the apartment building he lives in gets taken over by a group of drug dealers searching for their missing stash, and it's up to him to save his family and the rest of the residents. Great characters and fast paced action kept me entertained from start to finish. I pretty much listened to it straight through.

As always Kevin Pierce delivers another spectacular performance. He's definitely one of my favorite narrators.

Great book! Just wish it had been longer

This was a great adventure and the narration was excellent. I felt connected to the characters and hope there is a book 2!

The Last Storm

I can't believe all the reviews saying the story isn't about a storm. The storm nature lashes out with is nothing compared to the storm going on inside between the lives of the characters. The story has been written with style and flair bringing together two forces leading to one hell of a story.

The narration adds to the story and has been narrated perfectly

Entertaining- BUT FULL of climate change crap!

The story was entertaining but it might as well have been written the Al Gore and his fake science climate change fanatics. So unless you want a bunch of radical climate change “theories” based on no confirmed scientific facts, I’d skip this one. Kevin Piero however does hi usual outstanding job of making a story come to life.

I’ve read other Jack Hunt books and enjoyed them, this one was just too much climate change talk. Mother Nature has been healing the earth for thousands of years, This story could have been about God’s wrath for the way we all live rather than wrapped in greenhouse gas emissions.

It was just okay.

Not what I expected

This book is the second I have read by the author.
This title is misleading and so was the sample offered from Audible.
It is a story of a crazed drug dealer more than anything. Elements of the storm were bylines of this plot. Disappointing. I actually checked my title to be sure if downloaded the correct book.

Kevin Pierce was stellar as usual.

Outstanding story of course! Grab a jacket!

When Jack Hunt and Kevin Pierce get together, count your time as very well spent listening to the best. I had to listen all in one setting, there was just no putting it down for later.

I always knew Alaska was my least favorite place, now I know why! The good people of Alaska are tough and in this story, they need to be very tough. It's an exciting story of the good, the bad and the very ugly. I was on the edge of my seat all through this thriller. I'm really glad it's not winter now!

Don't wait to add this to your collection of stories you'll want to listen to more than once.

This Book Has A Heart of Gold

4.5 out of 5 stars

It’s really weird to read a post-apocalyptic story (especially one narrated by Kevin Pierce) that is just one story. This isn’t a series and there really isn’t much that Hunt could do that would match what happens in The Last Storm. Sure, he could continue their story – but it wouldn’t be the same and wouldn’t even match the pacing that he set up in this book.

What I found most interesting was that this wasn’t just your typical PA book. There was a whole other theme going on. Sure, most PA books have “bad guys” but this was a slight change from that. The storm and subsequent issues that it caused really played in the background to a “what would you do to protect your family” type of a story. Hunt was able to turn the PA tropes on their side a little and played with the apocalypse some too.

The world he created would be fun to read from other angles though. It was at its heart a Cli-Fi book. He doesn’t dive too far into what caused it (really he doesn’t dive into it at all) and we just find out that there is flooding and a massive storm hitting this tiny Alaska town. The town that Hunt describes reminded me of some of the smaller towns I visited on my recent Alaskan cruise. You could tell that if something major happened that they were going to be partially prepared – but also that they would be screwed pretty quickly.

Overall, The Last Storm was a really enjoyable PA and Cli-Fi book that had a heart of gold. I requested a free copy of this book - it has not affected my review in any way.

more crime Thriller than post-apocalyptic

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

The only reason I did not give this book 5 star review it's because I was expecting it to be a little bit more post apocalyptic. With the title amd the summary, I was expecting to have a little bit more detail Into the storm and how people survived. This book gear a little bit more toward crime thriller than post apocalyptic.

Wow!!!

So much happens in this five hour listen that it was very much like watching an action hero movie! There were some seriously smarmy bad guys and they actually take center stage, more than the storm.

The narration was exceptional and distinct and a key reason for the greatness of this listen. There were some "preachy" moments but the ending was disaster-movie worthy.

not really about a storm

it was a good story and well preformed by the narrator . it was not how ever a story about a storm. the main story was about a drug lord and smuggling drugs. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
