Editorial reviews

Acting is often a physically demanding job, but many actors don't realize that there are techniques that can help them open up their bodies in order to inhabit the characters they play. Narrator Tamara Scott's mature, gentle voice takes listeners through the process of creating the "lucid body" by exploring the seven chakra centers which stimulate the consciousness. Scott demonstrates voice and breathing techniques excellently, giving listeners very clear examples and guidelines to follow. Her expert use of tone - which ranges from soothing and calm to dynamic and inspirational - will lead listeners into the correct mindset to help them hear what their inner bodies are saying.

A Wonderful Conceptual Framework for the Actor

I've been pursuing acting as a profession for just under a year and I have tried to study and train as much as possible in that relatively short period of time. I feel extremely fortunate to have come across this book. It's based on the premise that actors can use the different chakras, or energy systems, present in each person to make authentic characters which truly embody attributes different from our own. Even if you feel reluctant about buying into the spirituality inherent in the concept of chakras (I would count myself among this group), you don't have to commit to any belief system or even believe chakras exist in actual fact. You could take the pragmatic approach and act as if those energy centers exist and I believe you can still tap into the power and wisdom of this technique.

Excellent

I’m not an actor, but this gave me better insight on the chakra body. I love it

Great Book

Great and useful book. However, the reader blew it for me when she tried to act out lines from plays. She was just terrible to listen too.

Sanctimonious, fluffy, sentimental, new age drivel.

Any actual actors who would rather grow and work should avoid this book like cancer. Great for self-help addicted stoners who love wasting their time in communes doing sentimentally charged “emotional-ish” masturbation. This approach will lead actors to fall into all the traps and temptations to generate and overact with surface-y preconceptions that scream “desperate amateur”. But if you want to have your identity as an armchair psychic/psychologist/savior of the world validated while you signal your virtue to your own reflection while you pleasure yourself with “your truth”, then by all means, eat it up and don’t dare use your critical reasoning, because then everyone will see how exploded your chakras are and you’ll need everyone in the tribe/commune to help you become more virtuously aligned.
