About this listen

From the bestselling LitRPG author of The RPG Apocalypse

A gas station clerk at twenty-seven with no future prospects on the horizon, Mike Reynolds is a dropout with an addiction to video games and a less-than-ideal living situation. Life definitely isn't great, but could it really get much worse?

When monsters appear on Earth and begin destroying the fabric holding together humanity, that thought is thrown out the window: everything is getting worse, and fast. 'Is my world becoming an MMRPG Apocalypse?' Can Mike make good on his prior experience and carve a foothold for himself as a Necromancer in this RPG world?

Good stories but it’s kind of generic

I would say, if this story was written 10 or 20 years ago, it would be an outstanding and very interesting story. Unfortunately it is lost in all the other stories just like this one. Though it is a good story, there is nothing about it that makes it stand out from all the others on the market now. The one thing I find interesting about the story is how it totally de-branded itself from its location. This story could’ve been set in Europe, the United States or any of a dozen different countries. Though I suspect it was not the USA, due to the fact that there was very few guns available in the story. Anybody who lives in the United States knows there are more personal guns in the United States than there are people by quite a margin.

A good book for a drive

The story is a little basic, but that's actually refreshing in its own way. The narrator needs a bit more emotion. I agree with other reviewers that this can get over-done, but it's also very underdone here.

Absolutely terrible don’t waste you money the positive reviews are bots most likely

Zero stars

God this is hilarious they wouldn’t show my review unless I gave five stars, read this review to see what kind of book this is

Okay so first of all I had to put the reading speed at 2.3 until I got an illusion of emotion out of the narrator. As soon as I started listening I got mad cause I thought audible wouldn’t charge your for a book voiced by A.I and was angrier cause I thought “how dare they charge me for experimental A.I cause it sounded worse than the other A.I books I’ve listened too. And then I got even angrier finding out it was an actual person (not cause there was a sudden amount of effort put into the narration but because I was checking the info to see if there a company I could complain too) who voiced this book and that they allowed it to pass and then charge people for it.

Point is that it sucks.

Next point is that the MC is terrible, not as ina terrible person but he’s an idiot. Major spoiler (I don’t even care I’m doing you a favor but not letting you waste money on this) but he finds four women who have been used as prostitutes against their will being chased by two guys in a truck one of them whooping and hollering “get back here and I won’t hurt you too badly” and general things rapist would say and then goes “I don’t want to kill them they might be forced against their will to follow the leader”. Like yeah poor them forced to rape the women and kill defiant men reall victim they are. Then he says “ Tell your boss I ain’t afraid of him and he better watch out cause I’m coming for him” then let’s them leave. Later his big plan to take over the base run by murderers and rapist is “let’s walk up to them and pretend we’re just normal people looking for shelter and then ambush them” like you literally sent them a message that you’ll be coming for him and they’ve seen a major main characters face, and said main character ,the one they got full view of, is in charge of going up to them and pretending to not be the person who just nearly killed the rapist he sent back.

Oh yeah did I mention that his plan is to not kill the murderers and rapist, yeah he was talking about how if one of his teammates doesn’t get over the love of his life dying the day she died that he’d leave him behind to die cause he can’t and won’t take care of him if he won’t benefit him, but the rapist and murderers he’s planing to just keep for some reason. I have such a major headache right now from how angry I am that I wasted money on this, like I don’t even mind the lost money what gets me is that someone believes that this its okay to charge people for this.

Oh yeah he’s also an idiot while fighting, he has this small band of skeletons that fight for him and he does nothing, he doesn’t have to control the skeletons he just tells them go fight and they do it, he just chooses to do nothing in the background, he doesn’t summon more skeletons when one gets taken down he waits until all of them are destroyed to summon them back one at a time and then complain how the monster that destroyed his skeletons one at a time won’t be held back by the one skeleton he summoned. He doesn’t pick up another skill of another bow or anything else he just sits there and watched and waits till things go overboard to do something.

Very cringy

The author is obsessed with making almost all men besides the MC, a rapist in waiting, always lusting after the women around the MC.

Mediocre at the best of times, stupid at the worst

Author seems to think that guns cause people to turn evil, except the MC. Only the MC can be trusted with a tool that would help people survive in an apocalypse.

Every male character is a bland, thoughtless follower unless he thinks he needs to inject some drama in the story, and suddenly even friendly characters become violent, sociopathic rapists.

MC must be in control at all times, and makes promises to people to get them to fall in line. He then breaks those promises and expects people to still follow him.

I get the feeling that the author has mild narcissistic tendencies, and likes to write himself into his stories as a power fantasy, where the MC is smarter than everyone because no one thinks for themselves unless they're evil, and MC always triumphs.

Narration ruin

This book is mediocre at best while also being dragged down by monotone dead beat narration. Every scene is without pitch. It can Easily be oveedone ,but this is too boring .
I wish i could undo this purchace.
The other series ,rpg Apocalypse by the same author is MUCH better on all counts.
The magic system is underdeveloped and boring in this series.
