Publisher's summary

Menacing dark fantasy and horror combine in the first book of this listener-acclaimed supernatural series (Gabriel Davenport) from British author Beverley Lee.

Something is waiting for its time to rise.

Beth and Stu Davenport moved to the sleepy English village of Meadowford Bridge to give their young son, Gabriel, an idyllic childhood. But one night, a hidden, ancient darkness shatters their dream and changes their lives forever.

Years later, Gabriel searches for answers about his mysterious past. His life unravels as he discovers that the people he loves and trusts harbor sinister secrets of their own. As the line blurs between shadow and light and he becomes the prize in a deadly nocturnal game, Gabriel must confront the unrelenting, malevolent force that destroyed his family all those years ago.

His choice: place his trust in a master vampire, or give himself to the malignant darkness.

Is there a lesser of two evils - and how do you choose?

Great story

Great story but really hard to get into due to the Narrator. I will never torture myself listening to him again.

Another great listen from my new favorite author!!

I received a copy of the audiobook of this novel from the author and I feel lucky to have gotten it.

The Making of Gabriel Davenport is my second trek into the world that Beverley Lee has created and honestly once again she has hit it out of the park for me.

When the story first started I was hooked on the background of Gabriel’s life as seen through the eyes of his Mother Beth. Then boom I am slapped in the heart strings by a Demon trying to take it all away, only for an unlikely hero to intervene. Skip to years later and now everything in Gabriel’s world is being shaken up and all he wants is the truth from all those around him.

The twists and turns through the end left me waiting for the next free moment where I could listen, and the ending left me wishing I had my hands on book 2 already.

This story had my heart racing to the end, and honestly I cannot wait for more. I highly recommend this, whether you read the novel or listen to the audiobook you will not be let down. Absolutely fantastic listen from a fantastic author who is becoming my new favorite.

Evil is after you from birth

Beverley has an ethereal writing quality that floats into your head and blocks out everything else. I was captivated by the characters and want to know more about their supernatural lives. Tension pulsates throughout the book which actually caused me to break out in nervous laughter at one point, not because it was funny, but so unexpected. The evil entities that lurk in this book are so menacing that I was mentally screaming at the characters to run. I am very happy that I have book two in the trilogy because I need to know more.
I left the review rather vague because I believe this is something that you need to experience for yourself.
I listened to the audiobook for this one and while Hannibal Hills, the narrator, does need help with his female voices he absolutely nails the tension and pacing

Five star listen

It all began with the purchase of a box.
Beth and Stu Davenport moved to a quiet, remote English village with their young son Gabriel. But one night their idyllic life is ruined by an ancient darkness that shatters their dream and changes their lives forever.
I loved this book when I first read it and I jumped at the chance to listen to the audiobook. This story hooked me from the first chapter. The dark gothic vibe, unusual characters and found family are all things I enjoy in a book. It’s perfectly paced and suspenseful. The thing with audiobooks is listening to a story really accentuates any flaws in the writing—word choice, awkward dialogue, etc. This is where Beverley Lee really shines with her beautiful writing. I highly recommend this one and I’m looking forward to the rest of this series coming out on audio.
