About this listen

An urgent cry for help brings Poirot to France. But he arrives too late to save his client, whose brutally stabbed body now lies face downwards in a shallow grave on a golf course.

But why is the dead man wearing his son's overcoat? And who was the impassioned love-letter in the pocket for? Before Poirot can answer these questions, the case is turned upside down by the discovery of a second, identically murdered corpse....

another great Christie book...

The twists and turns in the plot are incredible and, just when you think the story is concluded, another surprise. I LOVED this book and Hugh Fraser's narration of it!

Great story

A very great story with twists and turns and one of my favorite elements... making fun of Hastings. Poirot event gets an “adversary” in the French Inspector Giraud who goes out of his way to insult Poirot. A truly great Poirot story!

Slower pace, but a good listen

The pace of the story us slow. It definitely isn't the same as The Big Four or Murder on the Orient Express or Cards on the Table, but it is still a good book with the usual Hercule Poirot twist at the end. **A side note: Chronogically this is the second Poirot book which she wrote in 1923. Her previous book was The Secret Adversary ( the first Tommy and Tuppence book ) in 1922. ** There were times when the story lagged and times when it was a bit confusing, but having read several of Christie's later books I can see her developing Hercule's character. Plus, I never knew how Hastings and his wife, nicknamed Cinderella, met. In later books you hear him reference her, but nothing more. Overall, I give this a 3 star.

Hugh Fraser is a Winner!

Hugh Fraser is the perfect narrator for the Poirot books! He's charming, easy listening, and a perfect Poirot and much better than other Poirot narrators.

So good! The story was a true pleasure and full of excitement. When you think its figured out and clear, Agatha has you guessing again. Hugh does a great job as always!

Meh

The story was pretty convoluted and overly confusing in my opinion. Narration was as good as ever, but this will not be a Poirot story I reread/listen to again.

Hugh makes it

Having the Hastings of the Tv series narrate makes it all the better to listen to a great Christie novel
