Publisher's summary

Ark Royal - the Royal Navy’s outdated space carrier - has won a smashing victory against the enigmatic aliens, capturing one of their starships and returning to Earth. Now, Admiral Theodore Smith and his crew are assigned to command a fleet charged with making a deep-penetration raid into alien territory, a fleet made up of carriers from four different nations. But with a crewman who isn't what he seems, untested pilots and international friction - and a new and dangerous alien plan - can Ted and his crew survive their mission...or will they die, alone and unremarked, hundreds of light years from home?

Getting Better!

This book is a bit better then the first book. It still is long winded, but the battles are better. Still to much personal stuff you don't care about. Who is sleeping with who. The story seems to be better and is leading up to something big I hope, In the 3rd book. Still the listeners who gave these books 5 stars should listen to : Star Force by B V Larson or The Lost Fleet by Jack Campbell if you want 5 star action!!!

If you like Robotech!!!

Title says it all! If you like Robotech, you will love this series! It is NOT a rehashing of the same story, but a comparably developed and delivered concept. So far it is great! Can't wait to get through the next books.

Excellent military space scifi

Would you listen to The Nelson Touch again? Why?

No, But it's a awsome one time read.

What other book might you compare The Nelson Touch to and why?

It's abit like The Lost Fleet series or StarForce but alot better written.

Have you listened to any of Ralph Lister’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

First time with this narrator for me. He as a good range and makes the characters come to live.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The cliff hanger at end. GIVE ME BOOK 3 NOW! :)

Any additional comments?

Great read, Interesting concepts and fast paced. Short: Military space scifi at it's best! Check it out!

Good story, but the performance is less than good

the author is overly repetitive but that can be ignored for the good story. the narrator is not very good but not do bad top make it unreadable. I must say, however, that this would have been great with a better narrator.

captured

I got book one for $4.95 on special, then used a credit for book 2, now I'm hooked. it's interesting that unlike most sci-fi novels, there was no immediate and miraculous way that the aliens were able too speak our language, just another wrinkle in a war that seems from the human to have no reason for starting. I'm looking forward till book 3.

I liked both books 1 and 2. I'm looking forward to the next book, hopping it will complete the story.

Drunk is given Fleet

Ark Royal to date is the only carrier capable of standing up to the alien’s weapons due to its antiquated thick armor. The other carrier commanders in Earth’s armed services found themselves incapable of commanding her because all of their training in newer ships systems left them unable to function effectively when confronted with Ark Royal. That left a drunkard Commander Ted Smith to have his career salvaged and promoted to Admiral by this book as he was the only successful leader against the Aliens.
Now the Space Lord has placed him in command of a multinational space force tasked with seeking out systems deep in enemy territory and causing massive damage. The idea is to cripple their ability to make war. Hmmm, why wouldn’t they have a similar idea? Makes you wonder.
Kurt Schneider, the last acting CAG from Ark Royal has spent three months at the academy rush training five hundred new star fighter pilots including a Royal. His marriage is a disaster and the prize money he had won as part of Ark Royals crew is about spent due to his wife...being not a very good wife while he was claiming war stress to not be a very good husband.
The Royal, Prince Henry, has assumed another identity and is now a Star Fighter pilot on Ark Royal. He certainly gets his head bitten off enough as a Royal, oh wait, he’s in disguise. He finds solace in the arms of someone who doesn’t know who he is.
There are at least three more story lines embedded in this novel or series and the aliens are just getting interesting. I will say that I find the Stuffed Chair Club voice of the narrator kind of irritating but the story has me coming back for more. Three out of five points for this and that is because of deliver. Who knows, you might like it.
