Really enjoyed this series, I bought it despite the reviews about the narrator and am really glad that I did. She will grow on you, By the time I was quarter of the way through the first book I was swept away by the story, and grew to enjoy the narrator's way of reading.

Lovely series, great characters, great story line. How can you go wrong for 70 plus hours for one credit.

Can't wait to start listening to the next series.

I agree with other reviewers that the narration on the first book was unusual,weird,sophomoric and just plain bad however, I liked the story too much to quit. After the first book, the narration got much better and the characters grew into their voices. I enjoyed the office tension knowing well in advance how it would turn out. Laughing out loud too many times to count was a bonus. I liked the series.

Enjoyed this series - the who done it and why. Terrific characters, suspenseful, building a family of choice. Terrific storytelling!

The reporter Genevieve sounds just like Cartman from Southpark!! Once that occurred to me I had to laugh every time the narrator used that voice. I really like the series and Brooks character except I would expect her to be more alert!! I mean she’s a cop already….

This story gave me hours and hours of absolute anticipation and enjoyment.I am now going to look up the next set.I loved the characters and story line…get it you will love it!

So I am about halfway through the first book. This is after stopping after one chapter. But I bought the series and I am going to finish it lol I needed to stop because the narration is terrible. The characters are almost tolerable but the narration between the characters words is so monotone I feel like it was done with an AI.. a bad AI at that.

I need to finish stories I start - so I am suffering through it but buyer beware.

*** Update*** in the following books the narration voice did get better.. the character voices were still pretty bad and inconsistent. My original ratings still stand.

Yes the narrator has a rough start, but she constantly improves and the stories and characters are worth it. I am on the 3rd box set and I have to say that Kelley has become one of my favorite narrators. Her voices are individual and add to the personalities of the characters. The stories always have an unexpected twist. I really enjoy these books;

Almost stopped after the novella due to the narration. It got better but still bad. The male voices sounded like 13 year old boys or slow talking mobsters. The female police captain sounded like a 1940's movie newspaper editor. These are choices that the narrator made that were not dictated by the writing. The narrator also sometimes mixed up the voices. But I liked the stories and stuck with it.
