Publisher's summary

A Wall Street Journal bestseller.

A Border Patrol murder exposes a high-level conspiracy in USA Today bestselling author Steven Konkoly’s explosive thriller.

After exposing and dismantling a deep-state conspiracy that nearly destroyed his life, Ryan Decker finds his covert skills have put him on the radar of influential Senator Steele. Now Steele needs his help. Two patrol agents were killed in a bizarre explosion near the US-Mexico border—and the evidence doesn’t line up with the official story.

Enlisted by Steele to run an undercover, off-the-books investigation, Decker and his partner, Harlow, head to the border town of Tecate. But when they’re caught in an ambush, Decker realizes they’ve stumbled onto something far more dangerous than any of them understood.

The cover-up is rooted deep in the Department of Defense itself. Fearful for their own lives and unable to trust anyone outside their small circle of skilled associates, Decker and Harlow set in motion a risky plan to stop a criminal conspiracy.

You’re In For Another Crazy Ride

I really enjoyed the first book in this series (The Rescue), I thought it was an incredibly well told thriller. The Raid was no different. It was a fast-paced thriller that took what the first book introduced and ran with it. Of course, Ryan Decker is back and he’s still on a mission. He’s trying to get to the bottom of what he wasn’t able to completely finish off in the first book.

If you’re unfamiliar with Konkoly’s storytelling – just know you’re in for a ride. He’s a non-stop storyteller that sprinkles in details about Decker while he’s jumping out of planes or in a firefight in the Mexican desert. He gives you just enough to like the character then throws them out of a plane to see if their chute works. It’s a fantastic way to tell a story and something I admire. The entire way down we learn who a character is without wasting a breath.

The Raid was so enjoyable because it felt real. I would say other than the shootouts in crowded areas but I’m sure a Google search or two of Mexican cartels and bloodbaths would turn up results. The specifics (that I won’t spoil) that Konkoly gets into as to why and how the main piece of this story where happening felt very realistic.

The technology used (especially early on in their first investigation) was crazy. I like that it even surprised Decker a bit. His description of where he knew the tech was and saying that this was numerous generations ahead of the stuff that was being dreamed up was a great way to explain it without going too deep into it.

Overall, I’m a thriller fan and a Konkoly fan – so The Raid was a win-win for me. A blast of a book that I absolutely flew through.

Fast Paced, Enjoyable Snarkiness

Thom Rivera nailed it again narrating this exciting, action-filled book. Ryan Decker, Harlow Mackenzie and their teams are back stopping more ugly, corruption. Senator Steele is back too. She is the idealistic, smart, resourceful politician we all are hoping for but so seldom get at the ballot box. The fast paced, snarky comments between team members and well planned and executed missions are phenomenal!! Here's hoping we'll see more of Garza and the Angry Bee in the series. My husband and I enjoyed it immensely!! Can't wait to start the next one!!

Starts with a bang and never lets up!

This action-infused, twisty-turny series has geared up to become one of my favorites. Initially, the subject matter of human trafficking grabbed my attention, but it was the well-crafted writing that reeled me in like a fish. Not only did I read the Kindle version, but am presently listening to the audio as well. The narrator is talented and does a superb job with all of the characters’ voices. Looking forward to more Ryan Decker stories.

Great Book!

Excellent book, can’t wait to start part three, The Mountain. I do hope they keep up the action with Killer Bee and the love story with Harlow and Ryan.

Great Adventure With Decker, Pierce, Mackenzie

A fast paced adventure with lots of weapons and tricky plots. It is your typical alpha male adventure to take down the drug cartels that are now trafficking in people. Decker’s old nemesis Hartcourt is still out there and Decker and Pierce are hoping to take him down. There is a nest of vipers in the US Government covering for the cartels but how to get to them? A plot is hatched and Decker and Pierce go into Mexico to find out what happened when two border patrol are killed and a bunker exploded. What they find is more than they bargained on but in true macho fashion, they get to the bottom of it. Senator Steele wants to get the traffickers and she and Decker plan an off the book investigation in an attempt to lure those responsible into the light. The cover up goes high in the government and Steele must find a way to uncover the ones responsible. If you are squeamish about violence and adult language, this may not be the series for you. But, if you like espionage and cover-ups and competent teams, male and female, who can meet the challenge, you’ll like these books. Start with Book 1 and you are in for a thrilling read. I listened in Audible (Thom Rivera is terrific narrator) and finished with Kindle. Great series.
