Publisher's summary

A cursed land. A tenacious sorcerer. A dagger-throwing princess out to prove her worth.

Princess Melantha is done with court life. After suffering humiliation at her sister's wedding, she's determined to find her place outside palace walls and far away from fickle princes. Hearing rumors of a curse breakable only by a red-haired girl, she says goodbye to her eleven sisters and sets out on her own.

But events don't unfold as planned, and she is caught up in a grueling journey through a distant kingdom with friends both old and new in a race for survival. When the one person she distrusts the most shows up unexpectedly and offers to help, Melantha must decide if she's willing to pay his price.

An Epic Fantasy with Dragons!

This series just keeps getting better and better!

Melantha is the sister that stars in this book in the series. I think it is a very, very loose Little Red Riding Hood retelling with a few elements from The Goose Girl, but this whole series isn't really trying to be a fairy tale retelling series. It is more an epic fantasy series with dragons and magic and curses that need to be broken that just happens to pull in a few fairy tale retelling details here and there. And, I adore it. The more I'm immersed in the storyworld with each book, the more endearing it is.

I listened to the audiobook version, and the narrator once again does a really good job of bringing this book to life! This narrator is definitely on my list of favorite narrators!
