Acerca de esta escucha

In the 1980s and 1990s, 49 women in the Seattle area were brutally murdered, their bodies dumped along the Green River and Pacific Highway South in Washington State. Despite an exhaustive investigation - even serial killer Ted Bundy was consulted to assist with psychological profiling - the sadistic killer continued to elude authorities for nearly 20 years.

Then, in 2001, after mounting suspicion and with DNA evidence finally in hand, King County police charged a 52-year-old truck painter, Gary Ridgway, with the murders. His confession and the horrific details of his crimes only added fuel to the notoriety of the Green River Killer.

Journalists Carlton Smith and Tomas Guillen covered the murders for the Seattle Times from day one, receiving a Pulitzer Prize nomination for their work. They wrote the first edition of this book before the police had their man. Revised after Ridgway's conviction, The Search for the Green River Killer is the ultimate authoritative account of the Pacific Northwest killing spree that held a nation spellbound - and continues to horrify and fascinate, spawning dramatizations and documentaries of a demented killer who seemed unstoppable for decades.

Gets into a lot of office fights and not a lot about the criminal. Ok

A Little Slow

Great book. Took me a bit to get engrossed with it. There were a lot of details that were hard to keep up with. This book literally covers every detail from start to finish of the investigation. Some of which is a bit too much to handle at times. Be prepared for every month from start to finish even the boring ones.

Narrator is super monotone and boring.

learned things about the case that i didn't know before. liked how it gives a look at the police department back then.

a very good read

I'm not sure why a company that is in the business of selling an exclusively aural experience for it's customers is so bad at picking good narrators. It's a consistent issue, and I wish I had twenty minutes with the director of talent at their headquarters. Why WHY are there so many poor to average narrators in their catalogue?! I don't have the exact figures, but I feel certain I've returned at least fifty books for unlistenable narration since I've been a member.

This books narrator in particular read the whole thing (until I gave up, that is) in a sing-song-y voice. Why?!
Just having a pleasant speaking voice is not enough to qualify you for this job, but I'm clearly the only one who thinks so. Get a blessed grip, audible!

Returned, Though An Interesting Subject

Never really understood what had happened till I listened. Glad I did expert reporting by the authors.

Great interesting well done

This book is very thorough, maybe even a bit too thorough at times. There were a few chapters that felt unnecessary to the story and that I really just wanted to get through.
It is also not very personable or told in a story format. It gives you a distinct timeline of what happened, but is not told as a story like I’m sure many go in expecting.
Overall it felt like a “clinical” read to me, but it’s not to say that is a bad thing. The facts were presented and well explained.

Clinical and thorough.

I liked the way this way written, but I found the narrator a hair slow for my taste. I found listening at 1.2x was just fine.

Thorough and informative
