About this listen

In another feat of hypnotic storytelling, Anne Rice continues the extraordinary Vampire Chronicles that began with the now-classic Interview with the Vampire and continued with The Vampire Lestat and The Queen of the Damned.

Lestat speaks. Vampire-hero, enchanter, seducer of mortals - for centuries he has been a courted prince in the dark and flourishing universe of the living dead. Lestat is alone. And suddenly, all his vampire rationale - everything he has come to believe and feel safe with - is called into question. In his overwhelming need to destroy his doubts and his loneliness, Lestat embarks on the most dangerous enterprise he has undertaken in all the danger-haunted years of his long existence.

The Tale of the Body Thief is told with the unique - and mesmerizing - passion, power, color, and invention that distinguish the novels of Anne Rice.

Holy Sh:#@ tbis is good

I read this when it first came out in 1992 and forgot how amazing it is.
it is in some ways my favorite of the chronicles but I say that every time I finish re-reading or liatening to one.
of course there's a difference between reading it in college in the 90s in my early 20s and having Simon Vance read it to me now in my late 40s. but it still gives me the same feeling of rich immersion that it always had.

Unbelievable!

When there is a glimpse of redemption, the result of Lestat's actions destroys that hope. Which makes the tale(s) even more enticing! I applaude Anne Rice's intricate story line. Simon Vance is a spectacular narrator. He is extremely talented with numerous cultural inflections. That helps distinguish from one character to another. Bravo!

Nice counterbalance to queen of the damned

After the huge scope and world threat of Queen of The Damned, we are treated to a more intimate exploration of Lestat's character, with all his contradictory, hypocritical, petty and selfish traits exposed -yet curiously not detracting from his charisma.

And even if he emerges confirmed a rather loathsome monster after this adventure, you may find yourself rooting now even more for him, and standing by his side even when through the course of the story you'd have liked someone to slap some sense into him.

Lestat is like that friend nobody approves of, yet you can't resist hanging around with. In fact your infatuation with him is magnified by how obviously wrong it is. This is where I realise where Anne Rice is brilliant, despite that 'Purple prose' that sometimes gets on my nerves, I'll continue on to 'Memnoch the Devil' and wherever Lestat goes because I can't get enough of him.

I rather enjoy Simon Vance's voice and even if I would prefer he'd given Louis a younger voice, the overall experience is quite pleasant
