Publisher's summary
Beware of doorways through time…and the French.
While on a routine research trip, author Amelia Murray walks through a doorway at an old fort and slips back in time to 1754, leaving her friends and college-aged daughter behind.
Taken hostage by a French military unit, her confiscated notebook, with the dates and locations of battles for a young George Washington, could lead to his early death and the demise of the future United States.
Amelia must escape the French, retrieve her notebook, and save Washington without changing the course of history.
When the door she traveled through won’t exist for another year, where will she find another doorway through time?
How is a modern-day woman going to survive in Colonial America on the brink of war?
The Time Writer and The Notebook is a historical time travel adventure exploring the beginnings of the French and Indian War through the wit and mindset of a 21st century woman.

Mysterious and tragic, Madame Tan’s menagerie is the only home I’ve ever known. It’s a place where two worlds merge; a twilight zone between Earth and the magical Kingdom of Nerifir. The menagerie is filled with fantastic animals, but I discover that Madame captures and displays sentient beings too. One of them is locked in a crate day and night, not seen by anyone, and one day I learn why—looking at him kills. Even talking to Kyllen is forbidden, but I break that rule. Ashley Perrin is fresh out of college and starting a job as a community liaison for the Third District–the city’s only sector with more alien residents than humans. Ashley’s barely found where the paper clips are kept when she’s beset with constituent complaints–from too much noise at the Annual Lupidian Celebration Parade to a trip-and-fall chicken to a very particular type of alien hornet that threatens the very city itself. And if that’s not terrifying enough, Ashley is next up at the office karaoke night.

The Empire rules with an iron fist. The Valeroot elves have barely managed to survive, but at least they’re not Arthali witches like Elmerah. Her people were exiled long ago. Just a child at the time, her only choice was to flee her homeland, or remain among those who’d betrayed their own kind. She was resigned to living out her solitary life in a swamp until pirates kidnap her and throw her in with their other captives, young women destined to be sold into slavery.

The knight was supposed to be a man. Not me, Sophie MacKnight, a marketing associate from California. This must be a practical joke that the Scots play on visiting Americans. Because otherwise I’ve inherited a haunted castle in Scotland, along with one irritatingly sexy Scotsman, who would be delighted if I turned tail and ran. Frankly, I thought I would fly here, sell the heap of bricks, and head back home to a life that I…well, I was comfortable with at the very least. Instead, the people of Loren Brae are in trouble, and it appears that as the new owner of the castle.

excellent book but....
she really needs to learn to keep her 21st century temper under control if she wants to survive in 1750's anywhere....
I understand she's human and we all have flaws but for her own sake she should really bring the bitchiness down a few levels. I'm surprised she hasn't been beaten up more! it was dangerous enough to be female in those days never mind an outspoken 21st century female used to having certain rights that didn't exist for women then.
she just makes me cringe a lot 🤷♀️😬
