About this listen

Not all monsters are make-believe.

When a badly mutilated body washes up on the shores of Loch Ness, DCI Jack Logan's dream of a quiet life in the Highlands is shattered.

While the media speculates wildly about monster attacks, Jack and the Major Investigations Team must act fast to catch the killer before they can strike again.

But with Nessie-hunters descending on the area in their dozens, and an old enemy rearing his ugly head, the case could well turn out to be the most challenging of Jack's career.

And, if he isn't careful, the last.

Death and dark humour combine in this fast-paced Tartan noir crime thriller set in the Highlands of Scotland.

‘DCI Logan is sure to become one of Scotland’s best-loved detectives.’ (Adam Croft)

Okay, I'm intrigued.....

This is the second book in this series that I have read and I have to say that I am really, really enjoying getting to see a crime/murder mystery drama placed in the country of Scotland (and READ by a Scot as a narrator). As an American, we are used to "our" way of criminal investigations and it is so freaking refreshing to get to see a completely different way of solving crimes. No - I do not mean that they are any better or worse than our system, but it is different and that is so refreshing.

It is also wonderful to see the small cultural differences, and the small word/product differences in things that we take for granted every day.

I am beginning to really like and respect DCI Logan and I am looking forward to seeing what is yet to come as he moves to his new precinct.

This story was interesting and I can honestly say that I had NO IDEA who the killer actually was until all was revealed. I LOVE that. Surprise me - that is always what I am hoping for and unfortunately, it doesn't happen nearly as much as I would like it to.

So - 2 down, and...well, I don't know how many to go - but I did find this series when the 15th book was launched (that is how I was even made aware of this series), so - I've got a way to go.

Scottish mystery

This was an excellent well paced story with a great cast. Very well told and superbly narrated. I will certainly be reading more in this series.

The least satisfying Jack Logan novel

To start with, the title gives it away.
But other than that, it's not a good plot.
Still, Angus King manages to make it worth listening to,

JD Kirks DCI Logan series well worth listening to!

This is my 3rd book in this series. The characters are well developed and their interactions are very believable and often humorous. The books are suspenseful and make you want to solve them yourself. i highly recommend this author and series and enjoy the Scottish accent of Angus King.

Occultists, demon possession & apotropaic magic

Another wow! When a mutilated body washes up on Loch Ness, speculation wanders between occultists, Nessy, and Russian gangstas. With Logan having moved to the highland for a quieter life, he is greeted with this grizzly murder on this first day. The team of police characters continue to develop and grow more interesting and fun - a great balance of humour, police procedure and drama. After following clues in all directions, Logan and his team come to a stunning, twisty conclusion. As in the first book, Angus King's narration is wonderful!

Fun read

While the storyline is somewhat expected, the voice of the reader makes this totally worth the listen. I just found this series and I am enjoying it immensely.

Love the characters and narrator but...

Was able to figure this one out by the title and after 10 or so chapters. Still I already have the third one and will continue to follow DCI Logan as he and the team are we drawn. Stump him and us a bit more though

other than I am pretty sure the author isn't a fan of cats, this is a gray book. it's not so much I feel that way because of this 2nd book but the 1st and the 2nd.
but the narrator is fantastic!! sorry is good, keeps you guessing.
