Publisher's summary

No one ever truly disappears. In every unsolved case, at least one person knows the truth.

True crime is one of the most popular genres on the bookshelves - new docuseries and podcasts entice an audience millions strong. But why are we so drawn to real-life horror? What does it say about us?

True crime is about humanity. We are hardwired to pay attention to things that could harm us, and that’s why so many of us are captivated by the genre. It’s not a reflection of something dark within us - it’s a reflection of human nature.

True crime has become more than a source of entertainment, and it plays a critical role in giving forgotten victims a voice they never had the chance to share. Indeed, reading and sharing true crime stories is an act of social responsibility.

When true crime is done well, it teaches us how to be vigilant. It teaches us compassion, and it keeps the memories of victims alive.

True crime writers have the responsibility to provide a balanced narrative and tell the stories of both perpetrator and victim without sensationalism. It is through this careful attention to detail that the victim is honored, and innocent bystanders are protected from the crossfire.

Having lived through the traumatic disappearance of a loved one herself, Hannah J. Tidy understands the weight of this responsibility and expertly guides you through some of the most disturbing true crime stories of all time.

In True Crime Stories: Murders, Disappearances, and Serial Killers: Twisted Tales of True Crime, you’ll be led through a series of the darkest cases the world has ever seen. You’ll discover:

  • Critical red flags missed by police in a number of chilling cases
  • The horrific story of Jordan Turpin and her 12 siblings
  • A demystification of the vanishing children of Bowraville
  • Why DNA testing was historically underused and how the tables have turned
  • The infamous case of Fred and Rose West unraveled
  • A puzzling story of a seemingly innocuous note
  • Excerpts from real interviews with some of the most deadly criminals of all time
  • How an unexpected discovery linked three separate disappearances
  • Clues as to how some of the world’s most notorious criminals became cold-blooded killers
  • A series of dead ends and a multitude of cases that raise more questions than answers

And much more.

If you’ve ever worried about your interest in true crime, relax. Your interest is natural, and it shows your empathy, your compassion, and your humanity.

Ethically handled true crime stories play a vital role in bringing a voice to the victims and protecting innocent people from being wrongfully accused. When we let these stories sit untold, we let the perpetrators win.

By sharing true crime stories, we’re making the world a better place, one story at a time.

Loved every second!

I'm big on True Crime and Paranormal! This book did not disappoint. I have it in paperback and hadn't got a chance to finish because I've been so busy. As soon as I saw that it was available on audible I snatched it up! I started it from the beginning and from start to finish I enjoyed it. Plus, the cover work is awesome. Reminds me of an old detective style noir cover.

so, if you're a fan of true crime, I highly recommend this book!

True Crime Stories

This is a collection of true crime stories that made the headlines. We are given a quick overview and synopsis of each case. If you enjoy true crime books you will probably recognize these stories. This book is more for those who are new to true crime or just are curious as to these cases. I liked the way it centers more on recognizing the victims and encouraging listeners to pay attention and think before you post your opinions about these cases and others. Narrators Gunnar Qualen and Jenna St. Claire do a good job, they speak clearly and thoroughly. I received a free audiobook code in exchange for an honest review.

Interesting collection

I love true crime but don't like too much info (gore etc). This collection is told in a very respectful way to the victims and their loved ones.
I've heard a couple of them in other titles but there were still plenty I hadn't heard of.
I've read Hannah Tidy before and she's very good at what she does.
It's important for us to be aware of what is going on around us. You just never know some people even when you think you do. The epilogue was great.
Narration was okay, not Kevin Pierce quality, but okay.

Thanks for the opportunity to listen to this at no charge in exchange for an honest review.

Solid coverage of some bizarre crimes

Solid coverage of some bizarre crimes spanning the globe. Very nice narration. I'm definitely a true crime fan, and found each case to be very interesting. Some I was aware of, but some were totally new to me.
I enjoy this style and will look for more books in this genre after reading this.
I'm a fan. :)

Very Interesting!

I like the narrator's voice and this audiobook. It's like watching a documentary about the murders but without the visual. If you want to find out more about the true crimes stories in our world, I recommend it. I was flabbergasted by some of the stories.

I just wish the book was longer

I absolutely love every book put out by Hannah tidy, but like always wish it was longer. Having said that I was thoroughly intrigued listen to it in one sitting like always and can’t recommend it enough. I’ve never seen these stories anywhere before except on the news. If you’d like to crime you’re going to be interested in this book I promise.

loved it

I really liked this book as a way to get started with books on "tape". It was a genre that I'm very interested in and I really liked how there were two people reading so it hard some variety in the tone. Having each chapter as a different crime was a good way to format the book too. I also like that the story had killers I haven't heard of before.
