Publisher's summary

Taught to fear magic. Trained from a young age to destroy those who wield it. The First of the Blade series begins.

Trained to destroy sorcery from a young age, Imogen Inaratha left that life behind, having come to see magic differently. When her brother asks for help, she embarks on a dangerous journey - and must face a part of her past she wanted to forget.

An encounter with one of the mythical Porapeth changes the course of the journey. Protecting him forces her to face dark magical creatures and a powerful sorcerer determined to destroy the Porapeth in his quest for even more power.

To succeed, she must learn the truth of the blade she’d long thought she’d mastered.

She must truly become the first of the blade.

Great Martial Arts flavored fantasy

compelling characters, interesting magic mechanics and fun plot twists.

I'm looking forward to the next book in the series!

Great narration but bland story?

the narration in this book was fantastic. I felt like the opening sequence was enticing enough to see where the story went. after that when the "journey" started I began to lose interest because it felt like the same things continued to play out the same every chapter. there would be some bickering and then the story would progress a little.

I liked it.

It was good, but it lacked what the chain breaker books have. The chain breaker feels more put together and easier to follow at least for me. Unbounded was a great listen and awesome to see a different character shine. The ending also felt a little less climactic. Kinda just felt read rather than feeling the or hearing what Imogen was really going through in that moment. Still would recommend though.

Pleasant

I found this book moving, and I believe the listener will feel the same upon finishing the story. If I had one minor complaint, it would be that I wish that the narrator showed a bit more inflection. It would have helped the story, I believe.
