Publisher's summary

As a mere peasant, I can't say that my life was anything but a slog.

I struggled every day, looking to put something on the table, but it was my life, and no one had a right to take it. Especially not Eris Lanyer, lord of the city, the very same who was supposed to keep people such as myself safe! The nobleman killed me without a second thought for the sole purpose of testing the blade he had just acquired!

So here I am, burning with such a rage at this flagrant lack of justice. My hate is so immense that I'm unable to pass to the afterlife, and so I return as a Revenant.

If no one noticed my existence among the living, they sure as all hell are going to take note of me in my death… or rather undeath! A little pact with a dark deity later, and I'm now capable of growing my powers through the accumulation of Discordance shards.

Waging war against the mighty, causing mayhem, and striking fear in the hearts of mortals will help me unlock new abilities that will bring me closer to my ultimate goal: build an Undead Kingdom and run Eris' little world into the ground! Because I don't just want the man to pay for his sins, oh no! I want to make him suffer like I did my entire life, and I will not rest until he has tasted what true misery and despair feel like.

But wait, why can I only seem to shriek and snarl when I try to speak? And what is that atrocious pain and hunger that won't let me rest for even a second? As it turns out, life as a revenant is a little more complicated than I first thought… Oh, here's someone. Maybe he'll be able to help?

*Shrieks*

Oh boy…

Shame, next time. lol

Truly enjoyable. The plots, setbacks, comebacks, manipulation, multiple perspectives and characters are sound. I see a lot of potential in the universe system and magic system, great stuff. Oh, book one's ending is NICE! ha ha ha!

Thank you for the experience and great work.

Better than expected

I’m a sucker for the morally murky main character. This was a quick read with a dark MC and more moral nuance than most books in the genre. Light on the litrpg side but still entertaining. Will try the next in the series and maybe more from this author.

Great Book.. Perfect Narrator!!

Enjoyed listening to the opposite side of LitRPG. Thankfully, the MC was more mature than other authors in this genre. Definitely getting the remaining books in this series, and following both author and narrator for other titles.. WELL DONE! 👍🏽

Refreshing villainy & morality

What a great book, and what excellent narration!!

I was riveted throughout the story, enthralled by the fresh take of a LitRPG centered around a villain. And not just any villain, but a multi-layered one who continuously wrestled with morality and his need for vengeance.
Furthermore, the dialogues between him and those he faced were often deep with meaning and served to make the MC truly stand out as not just a creature of revenge, but one with an insidious and clever mind. Bravo!!

What's more, while the MC made several understandable mistakes throughout his journey, he LEARNED from them, and his personality developed accordingly alongside his growing lethal abilities. This seems like an easy thing to do, but so many authors fall prey to easy, lazy writing, hoping that most readers won't notice, so I applaud and appreciate the extra effort here!

Furthermore, I especially like how the protagonist isn't an overpowered powerhouse (looking at you, Savage Awakening), but someone who has to use his wits and tactics to fully take advantage of his deadly revenant abilities to take down the opposition with visceral brutality, yum!

However I need to point out one failing of the book: the stats/abilities system interface is extremely jarring in this pure fantasy setting where we're yanked right out of the narrative every time it voices the MC's skill progression in its AI voice. This might be less of an issue if this were not an audiobook, but here it's a discordant tone in an otherwise smooth dark fantasy.

Despite that one criticism, I'm officially a dedicated fan and will definitely purchase the next book.

Incredible Fast Pace Lots of Change

This book follows a man who is a peasant who is killed by a nobleman and becomes a revenant then creates a kingdom that is lit RPG world building at its best. has to be one of the first lit RPGs to embrace darkness. only stupid moment that doesn't make sense is when the Revenant Slaughter is a village including children but is Mr Almighty about sexual assault it goes a little woke. Overall worth the money amazing.

wow!

The voice acting was absolutely spot on with the story and the ending gave me shivers. I absolutely recommend this to anyone who's into litrpg. And if its too dark for you, check out the author's 8 novel work CivCEO, it's another masterpiece of the genre!

Beautiful!

A wonderfully done dark MC who sticks to his principles in brutal fashion. The writing was well done and highly entertaining. I’m eager to hear more from this author and of this series as it’s easily made it into my Top 5 favorite LitRPG’s. Well done job by the narrator as well.

it tried.

I could just be too old, but the shard thing just took me out of the story. It was just a video game skill/perk menu system. personally, I would have enjoyed it more if it had been something more natural. The book just feels like watching someone play a video game.

To slow

The plot is good, and I like the MC. The magic system also is fun. But the story felt like a slow burn and the narrator didn’t help that. No book 2 for me.
