Publisher's summary

New York Times and USA Today best-selling romance author Lauren Hawkeye serves up a captivating story of loss, self-discovery, and deep-seated desire. Some secrets are best left locked away in the past.

Alexa Kendrick has no recollection of the car accident that left her scarred and sent her life careening wildly off course. When the half-sister she thought she'd never meet shows up at her door with an invitation to a new life, Alexa finds herself in Florence, Arizona, a town notorious for being populated with more prison inmates than actual citizens; a town that has done its best to hide its own dark secret.

After Ellie is called out of town, she leaves her sister with the keys to her flower shop and Alexa finds herself swapping lives with her sibling: running Ellie's business, living in the house left to them both by their absentee father, and forging a smoldering relationship with sexy-as-sin penitentiary officer, Nate Fury - a man with his own demons.

But arranging flowers by day and tangling with the only man who has ever seen her real self by night isn't enough to silence the mysterious panic that fuels Alexa's dark dreams. When Nate brings home a book written by an inmate, one describing an unspeakable crime, the shackles binding Alexa's own lost memories begin to shatter. And as the devastating truth comes to light, she realizes that Nate holds the key to unlocking her past, as well as her heart.

Difficult to listen to

If I hadn’t been so into the story of this book, I would of had to quit listening. When the narrator talked in her own voice, it was fine but the voices she used for the male characters was like fingernails on a chalkboard!! She made them sound squeaky and that depicted them to be idiots to me, which they definitely were not!

Heartbreaking shock

When the truth came out I couldn’t believe it. I was thankful for the ending, but would love more of this series.

Untouched

Bad things - terrible things happen to good people!

This story brought home the nightmare of what happens in our world everyday. The twisted minds of the unhinged and the horrific and sometimes deadly results of their actions.

Alexa and Nate were two halves with so much despair that were drawn to each other. Finding love was a surprise to both of them and yet when their secrets came out they became one.

A sad, but true fact that no one can be complacent in this world we live in today.

A great book and the performance was good.

Like a good cup of coffee

I like this better than the prequel. Probably because this one is longer but other than that, I think their meet-cute can bring a smile to your face, as both our MCs felt that jolt of attraction despite their stormy and brooding disposition. Both are broken in their own way, and it even brings them closer rather than the opposite, which is such a beautiful thing.

When Alexa met the sister she never knew for the first time, she found herself being persuaded to visit their father's hometown only to find out that her sister Ellie needed to leave town to deal with a family emergency. Thinking she had accepted a favor against her will, she met Nate while figuring things out in her sister's flower shop. He also harbored a dark secret, trying to get himself out of the guilt he experienced from his previous job. But, while both try to find their way out of their funk, they realize they can help each other if they just let each other in.

The plot is quite dark if you also ask me. But somehow, it works because it made their love story more interesting. Add in that twist that somehow connected them, albeit indirectly. either way, i am glad that I was able to read a novel/ series from this author and although there are some dialogue that I may find a bit cheesy, I will not be surprised if I get to read another book from her backlist soon.

Good short story

Story is quite short and didn’t really have a lot of filler. A one time read though.

okay

The story was great until the end. it was very rushed in the last 2 chapters. it could have been a 5 chapter book after all. So much potential to be an epic book.

Heart break with HEA

This story is heartbreaking when Alexa is told about the “car accident” and starts remembering. It’s darker than she ever expected with hidden family secrets. I was so glad she got her HEA.
