About this listen

Captain John “Black Jack” Geary has come home after a century of cryogenic sleep to find the war between the Alliance and the Syndicate Worlds still raging.

A legendary hero, he is promoted to fleet admiral—even though the ruling council fears he may stage a military coup.

Geary has never fought for the sake of glory. His new rank means only that he has the authority to negotiate with the Syndics, who have suffered tremendous losses and may finally be willing to end the war. With grim determination, Geary leads the fleet back out into Syndic space.

This seasoned commander knows surrender never comes easy. But even as he steels himself to confront the immediate enemy, he is all too aware that a greater alien threat lurks on the far side of Syndic-occupied space.

book 7?

I wish there was a book 7 in the series. I'm interested how the peace will work out.

Victorious is a great ending to the Lost Fleet series

I loved this book. It skillfully finished the Lost Fleet series. This whole series is incredibly creative and fun to read. I particularly liked the more realistic science of space travel in this series. I heard that there are spin-off series as well. I will listen to them as well as soon as I re-listen to The Lost Fleet series!

Great ending to a great series.

I love The Lost Fleet series. The character development and action keeps the story going. And the narrator brings these people to life.

For a final novel in the series, needed more

It feels a little cut short, and I wish we had a few more of the excellent armada battles and though there was nothing cheap about the final solutions for the Syndics and the mysterious alien race I wish we had had more complications and a few more setbacks instead of near unanimous success.

Still, a good read if you've made it this far (or listen, the Audible is excellent). I took off 1.5 stars, 3.5/5, for not being a more ambitious final novel but was happy for the journey!

Good conclusion

Solid conclusion to this series. A little predictable but good setup for the continuing saga.

Great finish to an excellent series!

This fun sci-fi makes me hunger for the next series. Captain John Geary is a great tactician that listens to advice and has pretty good morals. He even experiences sting from a relational mistakes earlier in the series.

Most of how he portrays people's emotions and thinking is right on. Only occasionally would I think that a response was rushed or slightly inconsistent with the character in the story.

There is so little language that it seems to be required by the publisher, but it isn't necessary to be a great series!

The series ends?

Now that Geary got the ‘Lost Fleet’ home all the games begin. It must have felt like the Roman Senate when the first of the Caesars came marching in just before they ousted them. The difference is did Geary depose the ‘Alliance Grand Council’? Did he convince ‘Captain Padilla’ to accomplish his plans to put Geary in power? I will let you read.

We see that the ‘Admiralty’ of the fleet is completely clueless. They are waiting for Geary to conquer them or be put under them. Geary is put in charge and doesn't have time to fix the Admiralty before the fleet is ready to leave again to deal the death blow to the Syndicate worlds. Geary learns that as he has fixed the captains with him from doing stupid tactics he must do it again. The ships lost by the fleet out of the gate are because of chasing ‘honor.’ Ultimately he starts to get control of the fleet.

In the Syndicate system Geary has outwitted the Syndic forces and helps to bring the war to an end. Then enter the aliens. We knew they would have to appear sooner rather than later. They remind me of the ‘Gallifrey’s’ in their threats of action in the timeline or sending their large fleet to destroy things that don't really exist. I wonder what Geary would do.
