So Many Aliens For So Few Credits

Gleeful Goblin Review: I'm so thrilled that this author put together a 3-pack of stories on Audible. I've read the books before and had a great time, especially with the first in the series and the other two stories are just as great to listen to. Great excuse to pick up a lot of alien for very little money. From Book 1: This is a lighthearted feeling adventure romance that's told dual POV by a single narrator. The story can best be summed up as "a series of terrible ideas that eventually work out but it's a journey". Our FMC is part of a two person exploratory mission on the planet that our MMC's people have made their home on. She runs into unfriendly wildlife and is rescued by our MMC. The expression about love about fools rush in where angels fear to tread holds true from their first moments. Even though our MMC is the son of the king of his people....forward thinking and planning is not his strong suit. He leads with his heart and other parts for sure.

This is an easy, steamy, fun listen. 5/5 Stars.

Alien romance trilogy

This is a collection of adventurous alien romances.

Barbarian King's mate:
Although I believe these can be read as standalone's, easily, I felt this was a great beginning to the series and worth reading in order (which makes this box set perfect!). The author introduces us to Daphne and Garath. Daphne is on a research mission with her mentor when attacked by dangerous creatures. When her mentor is killed, Garath steps in to save her. Despite his father greatly distrusting aliens, he sneaks her into his villiage. We follow their story as they try to navigate not getting caught, finding out they're fated mates, and staying alive. This one was a fun ride

His mate to keep:
I personally was a big fan of this one. Both Merrit and Xavier are essentially inprisioned together by their captors, who are an alien race experimenting on other species. Xavier's strong will to escape is rekindled when he meets Merrit. She is determined to break out. When thrust together for mating purposes, they band together to plan their escape.

The Alien beast's mate:
In the third book we follow IPA officer Hazel and Valmore. Hazel is on a mission to observe conditions on a planet and report back. Valmore is hired to be her bodyguard. Unfortunately, unknown to her, there is a plot to hold her hostage for credits. When the captain of the ship reveals to Valmore that he intends on selling her instead, Valmore is angry and turns against those who want to hurt Hazel.

Over all I loved the stories and characters. I suggest this book set for those who like fated mates books. The narrator did a great job considering that this is not a dual narrator book. You could easily tell who was speaking.

Three great Warriors of the Lost Planet stories

Three great Warriors of the Lost Planet stories, each story will have their own troubles to get through. This is a collection that must be read in order as they are interlocked. The stories are Barbarian King's Mate, His Mate to Keep and The Alien Beast's Mate. Each story will have trouble with the Raxki and will have to find a way to defeat them. Great stories that I enjoyed listening to Azalea Blau narrate the stories.

Great Series

I really enjoyed reading this series, and listened to the first two books on audio. I got the opportunity to get my hands on the complete boxset so I could listen to the last book. Azalea Blau does a good job bringing these characters to life. I'll post my original reviews for them all below:

Barbarian King's Mate

While I've read other books by Ivy Sparks, I haven't listened to any on audiobook, so I was excited to give this one a listen (and I hadn't read it before, either).

I enjoyed this story. After losing her parents on a space expedition, Daphne never thought she would meet the same fate until doing some research on a planet that turns out to not be as uninhabited as stated. Rescued by alien prince Garath doesn't make her much safer against the cold edict of his father and king who executes outsiders after the genocide that happened to their people. It was an interesting story that riveted me. I like both Garath and Daphne- though I found she could be very stubborn. As much as I liked how the ceremony they were forced to do was handled and loved the connection that rose up between them, I felt- as least in audiobook- that it went on way too long. I mean, I got bored during a powerful intimate scene and am just waiting for them to finally finish and get on with it lol

I listened to this audiobook narrated by Azalea Blau and thought she did a good job. I liked that I could tell the difference in the female characters' voices between Daphne, Garath's sister, and even Dr. Philippa. I also really liked her 'male' voices for Garath and even Zigsir. Usually when a female narrator is doing a male voice, it just sounds like a woman speaking in a deep voice or mimicking a male voice. I didn't feel that way here, so it didn't draw me out of the story.

His Mate to Keep

I loved this book. Great world building and wonderful characters. I actually liked this book even more than the first one. I loved both Xavier and Merrit. The story was interesting from the start as Merrit was trying to get the other males in charge of their pirate ship to see her reasoning about needing to salvage parts. I loved how she stepped up with reason and intelligence- before danger struck. Even after captured, she was a fighter and always trying to find a way out. I liked even early on, Xavier tried to advise and help her, unlike the other males who only saw an attractive female in their lab/prison. Despite the possibility of his whole species being dead, all his fighting and planning without success, and no way out unless rescued, he didn't break or give up hope.

I liked the way their relationship developed. They bonded quickly to survive and attempt to escape the horrible prison/lab and the experiments forced on them. Merrit is a smart and brave heroine. She never gives up and isn't afraid of a fight. She is inventive and quick thinking, and definitely holds her own. Xavier is strong and smart. He knows how to survive, bides his time, and knows how to fight and defend. I was cheering for these two from the beginning. An exciting fast paced book with action, suspense, and romance. I loved it and recommend it.

Azalea Blau did a great job with her narration and bringing these characters to life. I loved her different voices for the different characters- even the males. I'm looking forward to the next book.

The Alien Beast's Mate

This story was an interesting adventure. Hazel is an IPA peace office sent to check out the Trozolla system after reports of unrest. The ship is rusty and run-down looking, and the crew mysteriously are all armed for a mission that shouldn't have been dangerous. Valmore is her alien bodyguard. But unbeknownst to her, there is a plot for the crew to hold him and Hazel hostage for a ransom. Val is promised no one will get hurt, but then the plan doesn't go exactly as it was supposed to. Can Val keep Hazel safe? Will she still trust him when she finds out he was a part of it all along? What happens when feelings start to develop between them?

The bond between Hazel and Val is pretty instant. I wish I could have seen them bond a little more naturally to really drive up the emotional stakes of this story. But the story had action and suspense and was paced well. 4 stars.

Steamy, but not over-the-top

Overall Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5)
Narration Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐✨ (4.5/5)
Spice Rating: 🌶️🌶️🌶️ (3/5 - Steamy, but not over-the-top)

Spoiler-Free Summary of the Trilogy:

This trilogy is a high-octane blend of action-packed sci-fi, sizzling romance, and emotional stakes. Each book centers around a strong human heroine who finds herself thrown into perilous situations across alien worlds, only to encounter a fated alien mate. From barbarian warriors to space pirates and reluctant bodyguards, the trilogy delivers adventure, rich world-building, and intense, steamy moments.

I dove into this series expecting an entertaining mix of adventure and steamy romance, and it delivered exactly that—along with a surprising amount of depth in certain moments. Ivy Sparks knows how to balance alien intrigue with emotional storytelling, and Azalea Blau’s narration elevated the whole experience.

From the moment Daphne gets captured by scorpion-like aliens in Barbarian King's Mate to the harrowing escape scenes in His Mate to Keep and the tangled loyalties of The Alien Beast's Mate, there’s never a dull moment. The themes of survival, loyalty, and love across species really pulled me in.

Favorite Moments:

• Barbarian King's Mate: When Garath defies his father to protect Daphne, risking exile. That moment hit hard with its emotional weight and his unwavering loyalty. My Fav quote that had me smiling "If I have to burn a thousand galaxies to keep you safe, I’ll do it. And I’ll smile while I watch them burn." – Garath 😈

• His Mate to Keep: The prison break! The way Merrit and Xavier fought side by side, blending brains and brawn, was thrilling.

• The Alien Beast's Mate: Hazel’s confrontation with Valmore when she learns of his betrayal. The tension was so thick, and their reconciliation was heartfelt and raw.

I will say the intense and graphic depiction of the experiments in His Mate to Keep took me by surprise. It was darker than I anticipated, and the stakes felt incredibly real.

Azalea Blau’s narration is fantastic. She brought unique voices to every character, making it easy to differentiate between them. Her ability to convey emotion, especially in the more intense or steamy scenes, was spot-on. The male voices were convincing, which isn’t always easy for female narrators.
My only minor critique? Some pacing in emotional scenes felt a touch rushed, but it didn’t detract much from the overall experience.

Would I Recommend It?

Absolutely, especially if you enjoy sci-fi romance with high stakes, badass heroines, and a sprinkle of humor. Just brace yourself for some intense moments along the way.

Escape to a barbarian planet!

This was a great audiobook to listen to, and I couldn't put it down! Each book in the trilogy had me gripped in its sway until the end of the book (and a realization I'd stayed up way too late listening). The heroines stuck in unpredictable situations are feisty but need the assistance and protection of the alien males that end up in the right place at the right time. Definitely enjoyed the narrator's expressive voice and the different tones, pitches, and accents used to indicate different characters.

I marked the series down only because there were some passages that seemed overly complex, enough so it kicked me out of the flow of the story. The first one I think I noted was during the first book's first mating of the pair; the emotions were being expressed in such complicated and flowery prose that I lost track of the thread of passion. Bigger words aren't necessarily better words, and I think the author got into the swing of things further along in each book. It was enough to make me write a note, so it dinged the rating a star. If it hadn't been a critical scene (first mating), I don't think it would've been as bad a mental hurdle. Both point-of-view characters are well spoken but not overly so in the rest of the novels, so the addition of purple prose in a critical scene felt worse than it necessarily might be anywhere else in the plot.

Despite only four stars, I definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good science fiction setting. The planet, the spaceships, and the tech (until they get stuck on a barbarian planet, anyway) are all top notch, and I think Ivy Sparks has a real talent for worldbuilding. Alien males aren't all that different from human men in it, for all their larger size and cosmetic details, but that only builds on the necessary protector/protected nature of the pairs. I recommend this series and all of Ivy Sparks' books!.

Entertaining and Great World Building!

This boxed set includes three novels (Barbarian King's Mate, His Mate to Keep and The Alien Beast's Mate). I like this alien sci-fi romance series. Each story follow one couple. I loved Garath/Daphany, Xavier/Merrit and Valmore/Hazel's stories. The alien/men are handsome and protective. The humans/women are beautiful, smart and strong. Each story is filled with action, danger, passion and twists and turns. The world building is imaginative and captivating. I loved to see all the characters in the last book in the series. Azalea Blau did an excellent job bringing these characters and these stories to life. She has a beautiful voice and a great range of voices. If you like alien sci-fi romance, this series is for you.
