About this listen

In the frost-kissed ambiance of wintry England, where snow blankets the landscape and a Christmas house party twinkles with festive cheer, fate orchestrates an enchanting love story. Lady Elizabeth Breckenridge, an epitome of grace with her golden locks and captivating cerulean eyes, steps into the seasonal revelry, her heart yearning for a love that has eluded her through two bustling social seasons.

Everett St. Giles, the Earl of Brookfield, a distinguished figure with raven-dark hair and piercing gray eyes that hold secrets untold exudes an air of mystery. However, when he lays eyes upon Lady Elizabeth amidst the holiday merriment, something inexplicable stirs within him—a sudden, unforeseen attraction that defies reason.

Their encounter, amid flickering candlelight and the festive allure of mistletoe, sparks an immediate connection that neither anticipated. In a whirlwind of shared laughter and stolen glances, Lady Elizabeth and Lord Brookfield find themselves irresistibly drawn to each other, swept up in a whirlwind of emotions that blossoms unexpectedly amidst the joyous Christmas festivities.

As the season of goodwill unfolds, their hearts entwine in an unexpected dance of affection. Will Lady Elizabeth and Lord Brookfield discover that amidst the magic of the holiday season, love can be the most wondrous gift of all?

This is short and sweet story, great for a snowy afternoon curled up in a chair. It was a good example of an uncomplicated love story, set in the Regency era. The story is well written and engaging. Everett & Elizabeth

Part of the Fated for a Rogue series. Everett St. Giles, the Earl of Brookfield and Lady Elizabeth Breckenridge's story. A short novella story that is a engaging Christmas/Twelfth Night Regency Era England story. I enjoyed seeing their story come together and them gat a happy ending. Frankie Porter does a good job narrating this story.

Looking Beyond Infatuation . . .

This is a sweet, uncomplicated love story featuring the Earl of Brookfield, Everett St. Giles, and Lady Elizabeth Breckenridge. Lady Elizabeth begins her third Season, still not finding the true love she hopes for and determined to find it. As if in answer to her challenge, an invitation to a Christmas house party is delivered to her brother William. They tease each other and agree this is the one to attend. And this time, at the house party, Everett St. Giles, yearning to find love, is delighted to notice a lovely woman who stirs his heart. His sister had told him to look beyond the surface and listen to his heart. That is the way to find true love. Both are indeed drawn to the other and share lovely holiday moments together. Is it their Fate this time to have found something they don’t want to walk away from? Will the two of them accept the Christmas magic that has brought them together and offered them a future of unending love? Both characters are likable and the reader will cheer them on to find love at Christmas and forever. Can they meet that challenge?

The narrator for the audiobook version, Frankie Porter, brings the “reading” experience alive for the listener. She does a good job with the voices to personalize the story and make it easy for the listener to get an accurate impression of what each character is like. It helps to set the mood, familiarize the reader with the characters, and offers a pleasant way to “read” and enjoy the book.

Christmas Wishes

This is a charming romance about two people who meet at a Christmastide party. They have a kiss under the mistletoe, enjoy the party together, and wish on the Yule Log. Lady Elizabeth Breckenridge wishes for true love, as does Everett St. Giles, Earl of Brookfield. Do wishes come true? It’s Christmas; of course, they do. A sweet story, and lovely narration by Frankie Porter brings the delightful characters to life.

Slow and a little dull

I usually love books and audiobooks by Amanda Mariel, but I'm afraid this one was not for me...or I was not for it. It is a sweet Regency romance between two people, each looking for true love, that connect during a Christmas house party over poetry and their feelings. For me, the story moved too slowly, and there is no angst, conflict, or challenge. Honestly, I found it a bit dull and repetitive. It was very poetic, and the wedding was beautiful, but I wanted more from the story. If you are just looking for a short, sweet love story, with no conflict or challenges, I recommend this story.

The narrator did a fine job, but she couldn't change the monotony (for me) of the story.

Sweet Until It Became Tedious

Sweet Until It Became Tedious

I absolutely adored the hero of this book. Often in romances, either the hero or the heroine (or both!) makes some sort of statement or has thoughts about how they’ve given up on love as the story opens. It happens so often that it's actually uninteresting as a romantic trope. So I was utterly charmed by this hero because his feelings were exactly the opposite. He was wanting to meet the woman who would become his countess and despaired that he would not find that lady. (He actually isn't a duke, as the title states. Instead, he's an earl, the son of a marquess who himself is the heir to the family dukedom. So he's got a ways to go until he ascends to the ducal title. Here's another pet peeve. I don't like it when authors throw “duke” in the title when the hero is nowhere close to being one! Did the whole Bridgerton phenomenon make it so only dukes and viscounts can be historical romantic heroes? Frankly, I sometimes lament the lack of earls and marquesses in modern historical romances! Such heavy favor is now being given to dukes and viscounts!) When the hero and heroine meet, it's almost love at first sight, and while that can be another corny trope, these two were very sweet together from the very beginning. Secondary characters include siblings on both sides, who are surprised and pleased to see what is very obviously unfolding between the couple. I found probably 3/4 of the book to just be sweet and charming with little angst and much holiday cheer, but I felt the author kept treading the same ground with how they talked about how they felt about each other. I felt like I needed a little more action outside events to break it up a bit. It felt too saccharine after a certain point. I wasn't wild about the narrator. She didn't do a good job with the male character's voices. All in all, though, I did enjoy the story.
