About this listen

The adventure continues as the young wizard Beneban battles ice dragons, barbarians, black magic and his own conflicted heart.

Commanded to the far north to capture his friend, the rebel Lar Tor, he longs instead to be in Larlingarde. There, his Forest Lady love, Laraynia, has become heir to the Grand Lar, using all her powers to thwart the evil wizard who strives to kill her uncle and take her prisoner. Beneban, his magic sword and his troops fight many foes in his quest to rejoin her, but even their combined magics may fall short. In her darkest hour, Laraynia finds a possible ally in an enemy enchantress. Can she win the aid of the mysterious vardraken queen and her winged, ice-breathing beasts?

Can Beneban claim the magic of Sartenruhn, the legendary wizards’ school, to defeat the dark wizard Ztavin, and be true to his love without losing his freedom?

A Spellbinding Fantasy

I enjoyed book two as much as the first one. I admired the worldbuilding. I was amazed at the creativity, and I liked the magical systems and items. I was entertained by all the twists and turns as Beneban and Laraynia worked to complete their individual goals. The almost non-stop action kept my attention. I am looking forward to the next book in the series. I was impressed with Hollis McCarthy's narration, and her performance added to my enjoyment of the story. I was given a copy of the audiobook. I volunteered, without financial gain, to post this review which reflected my honest opinions regarding this audiobook.

THIS SECOND BOOK AS EXCITING AS THE FIRST! LOVED IT!

This Tolkien-like saga has 6 books, 3 of which are on Audible.
You will find it wonderfully layered and each book will end at just the right place, having solved some problems and beautifully setting up the challenges of the next book.

This installment brings even more sentient beings into the story, many in the form of wild-looking beasts. But we find that they are not as scary as the bad guys.
One of the things that I especially enjoyed about this book, that was gifted to me by the author, in return for my candid review, was that there are several bad guys in the saga, and several heroes that you wouldn’t expect. The plot twists will keep you guessing until the surprising end, while whetting your appetite for book#3.

As with Tolkien’s “ Lord Of The Rings” everything does not always go smoothly and the mettle of our protagonists is constantly being put to the test.

Hollis McCarthy is an especially gifted actor, so much more a wonderful story teller than just a narrater, and her many and varied voices bring her mother’s words to life in a way that makes you feel like a spectator rather than just a book listener.
This is one of my favorite series and I highly recommend it.
In Fact, I can't wait to listen to the next book!
