Publisher's summary

DI Sally Parker has a serial killer on her patch. One thing that sets this killer apart from the others she's hunted before: his willingness to leave DNA at each of the crime scenes. It's up to Sally and her partner, DS Jack Blackman, to find out why before the body count rises to double figures.

While Sally is engrossed in the investigation, her ex-husband, Darryl, pays a surprise visit to her new home. His actions not only threaten Sally's newfound confidence, but they also force the DCI to give Sally an ultimatum concerning the case. Can Sally overcome all the obstacles fate has placed in her path and arrest the brazen killer?

Good story but narrator was not great

Story was very good but the narrator sounded like a robot. I could've just had the free narration on the kindle instead of spent the money on the narration. I hate to write a bad review and the voice was nice but too mechanical.

Irritating narration

Setting aside that the narrator sounded like an AI bot, the story started off interesting but went into the non-believable which made me feel frustrated and a bit like I had wasted my time listening to this book.

If I had it to do over again I would not have read this book, nor would I recommend it to a friend.

No, just no.

I never write reviews but this time i had to.
I came to chapter 3 before i gave up.
First of all, im not English so it might just be me but i strugled to hear if the narrator was English, american or australian and on top of that she sounded as bored as watching paint dry, you can hear she is reading word for word with no excitment what so ever. The book might be good, but i just can't listen to this

SO BAD

I thought every detective book with British D.I.s would be good. Oh, so wrong! This is so poorly written and read it could be a parody but, alas, it's not.

where do I start?

the oversimplified story line and characters? crime scene 101 dialogue? under developed principal? or the clipped, excruciatingly slow and wooden narrator? don't. dont bother. unless you're new to reading.

Did Not Like the FMC

This is the first book that I have read by this author. I thought I had lucked up with this book being about a British detective who also happens to be female, and it was the first book in the series. I really enjoy British mysteries, police procedurals, etc.

My first impression of DI Sally Parker was that she was insufferably rude. The way she interacted with Jack seemed inconsistent with their relationship. I know she was a Detective Inspector and Jack was a Detective Sargeant, but I thought she would have a bit more respect for him. Then, when she suddenly became solicitous about what Jack was dealing with at home, I felt like I had whiplash.

I also felt like based on initial impressions that she was going to be a much tougher person. Appearances can be deceiving. Then, that interaction with her ex husband was so out of pocket that I spent chapters thinking it was unbelievable.

By the time I reached the interaction Sally came upon involving her dog and her Dad, I felt like there was no way on earth she should have been a cop. Much less in the position she held. This woman had no sense of self preservation.

I did think some of the twists and turns were nicely done and interesting. That is what saved the book for me. The narration was ok. I am not familiar with British accents from different areas of the UK, so the accent may have been on point. It sounded inconsistent to me, but what do I know?

The ending for me was too little too late. If it had occurred earlier in the book, I would have been able to appreciate it more. I am not sure if I will continue because I just didn't like DI Sally Parker. 2.5 Stars
