In You Are the Placebo, Dr. Joe Dispenza shares numerous documented cases of those who reversed cancer, heart disease, depression, crippling arthritis, and even the tremors of Parkinson’s disease by believing in a placebo. Similarly, Dr. Joe tells of how others have gotten sick and even died the victims of a hex or voodoo curse - or after being misdiagnosed with a fatal illness. Belief can be so strong that pharmaceutical companies use double- and triple-blind randomized studies to try to exclude the power of the mind over the body when evaluating new drugs.
Dr. Joe does more than simply explore the history and the physiology of the placebo effect. He asks the question: “Is it possible to teach the principles of the placebo, and without relying on any external substance, produce the same internal changes in a person’s health and ultimately in his or her life?” Then he shares scientific evidence (including color brain scans) of amazing healings from his workshops, in which participants learn his model of personal transformation, based on practical applications of the so-called placebo effect. Literally Mind Blowing!
This is the most phenomenal guide to personal and world transformation I’ve ever read/listened to! Not much of a “How To” book
I was eager to learn how to become my own placebo as the title suggests. Instead 99.9% of the book is spent convincing the reader that they can become just that, not teaching teaching how to do it.
In the final pages it disappointingly offers the long awaited meditations - for an additional cost - from the author’s website.
I appreciated hearing 100 stories of people who became their own placebo. But bought the book to learn how to become so myself. Not be sold a website I could have went to in the first place.

If you are looking to change yourself…
And your life, then please give this a chance. Approach the subjects and listen with an open mind. From the first, the work is compelling. The work is backed by research. The research and the outcomes of the mindfulness work are nothing short of amazing. It made me want to dive deeper into exploring the deeper meaning of being me and the outcomes of my own health as it relates to past traumas.
The purpose of this book, any of Dispenza’s books, is to open the door to possibility for anyone that is willing to listen. If you are as intrigued as I am, you will want to dig deeper. The book in and of itself is not, nor is it meant to be the curative, the book is a vehicle to set us on a journey to find the curative within ourselves.
