It is a Good Start For Me

I've read a bunch of books on Zen and on other lineages and looked through a bunch more, and this is really the one that has spoken to me the most, by far. It's specific, wise, relevant, and somehow just usually brings things home in a way that others don't.

Love this book as a beginner. An excellent book

Simple meditation practice defined in this book is good. Appreciate the difficulties beginners would be facing.

Handy Book For ZEN

This is the real Zen, beautifully and simply explained, as Zen is intended to be. You will find here no complex academic and/or theoretical frameworks, as these have nothing to do with Zen. Thank you, author, for this illuminating book.

Excellent Overview

Excellent overview of Zen ideas. The author presents complex Buddhist concepts in accessible language. I found myself listening to many chapters twice. For me, this was the type of book that made me stop and think, which is always a good sign. Very rich and fulfilling book.

My Words Would Not Do Justice

My words would not do justice to this book. All I can say is that it has been one of the most down to earth books I have read about Zen.

Great for Beginners!

I found this book to be very informative without being overwhelming. It did a great job of explaining things in a way a beginner could understand while also pointing the way to a deeper exploration, if one so desires.

This book presents Zen Buddhism as a form of personal therapy. The author actually says, "Our Zen training is designed to enable us to live comfortable lives.
