From dopamine trap to inner joy

  • Summary

  • Send us a text

When we chase fun and happiness from the outside we can get trapped in the dopamine induced desire and need for more to feel the same. This chemical, dopamine, which is necessary for you to move (is depleted in that part of the brain for Parkinsons patients) and for feeling a desire and enjoyment (from the outside) of doing something has a buffering mechanism to bring us back to balance. This mechanism is what causes us to feel worse after we have been partying or low after stopping playing our favorite computer game....it is also that mechanism that makes us need more and more stimuli to feel the same pleasure. Eventually the pleasure part of that behavior completely disappears (shown in research). It is now less than it was when you started...that is how additions are formed.
Let the joy come from the inside. Every now and then enjoy an outside boost but don't let it be where most of the joy comes from, it will go away.
