About: Welcome to "It's Messy, But It's So Good," the podcast that explores the captivating journeys of individuals following their passions and expanding through life's challenges. Bio: A proud Gen X’er, Rob’s life has not been what you might call conventional. He is a Registered Nurse, a former theater actor, and a travel addict. Rather than waiting for life to have fun at retirement, he started taking multi-year sabbaticals to see the world when he was in his twenties and has now been to over ninety countries on six continents. He and his husband David offer their example of what is possible with long-term travel on their Youtube channel Ten Degrees Warmer. Their most recent adventure was walking the Camino Frances, a 500-mile pilgrimage from southern France across northern Spain, which they did over 39 days. Podcast Highlights Mindset Shift in Long-Term Travel Rob shares that long-term travel requires a slower pace and a shift from vacation mode to living in new places. It’s about embracing everyday life rather than rushing through tourist experiences. Community is Key Rob emphasizes that finding a community of fellow travelers and locals is essential for an enjoyable and meaningful journey. Connections make the travel experience much more fulfilling. Camino de Santiago: A Journey of Humility and Self-Care Walking the 500-mile Camino Frances taught Rob lessons in humility, listening to his body, and self-care. Despite physical challenges, it remains one of his favorite adventures. The Financial Side of Long-Term Travel Rob notes that long-term travel can be much cheaper than short vacations when staying in one place for over a month. This lifestyle balances exploration with necessary routines. Travel Content and Philosophy Rob shares his travels through his YouTube channel, 10 Degrees Warmer, as a creative outlet. He believes in being adaptable, trusting things will work out, and finding a community of like-minded people. If you have a dream in your heart to travel the world you will love this podcast episode.
