  • From Chapter 3 of The Gospel of Matthew, we are introduced to John the Baptist, who baptizes people for repentance, and preaching about the Kingdom of Heaven, and the coming of the Messiah. Later, Jesus of Nazareth comes to the Jordan where John is baptizing and approaches him, but at first, John is hesitant to baptize Him, knowing He is the Messiah, but Jesus pleads with him to do so, and John agrees. As John baptizes Him, the heavens are opened and the Holy Spirit rests on Jesus as a dove, and the voice of God thunders: "This is my Beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."
