Saving the hostage Henry III from Simon de Montfort, he is riding high on a wave of royal praise at the conclusion of the battle. But that favor with the king is short-lived. Henry, once again in power after the death of de Montfort, is determined to rid his country of the de Montfort-supporting rebels once and for all.

She is sickened by the tradition of stealing valuables off the dead and runs off to hide. In her hiding place, however, lingers the badly wounded knight. The young woman is frightened at first but her natural instinct to lend aid takes over. She tends the knight and saves his life.

Medieval England 1272 A.D.: Sir Eryx de Reyne has both Scots and English blood in him, and serves at Prudhoe Castle on the Scots border. And that's where his destiny lies. Cleaning up after a border skirmish along the ancient Roman wall, he chases some Scots into the ruins of a Mile Castle, an old Roman fort. After a brief battle, he is about to leave the ruined castle when he notices loose stones and the reflection of something metal. Pulling away the stones, he discovers an ancient Roman gladius.
