Professor Schaefer teaches at Emerson College in the Visual and Media Arts Department. His book looks at exploitation and sexploitation within films, tabloids, novels, and audio recordings.

On this week's In Bed, Shulem Deen, author and narrator of All Who Do Not Return, describes abandoning a Hasidic cult in which, on his wedding night, he knew how to broker a real-estate deal in ancient Babylon - but didn't know the fundamentals of how babies get made.

Let's meet a group of women who pick up the pieces when their husbands come out. Susie reads from an article by Chadwick Moore in Out magazine that tells the stories of women dealing with their husbands' changes in sexual preference. Many of these women are devout Christians or from conservative backgrounds. They feel they should remain supportive, even at the sacrifice of their own happiness.

A landmark court ruling in Japan has stated that, since prostitution in their country is a business transaction, wives can't claim it as adultery. So why is this a big deal? Japanese wives are entitled to monetary compensation when their husbands have mistresses. Susie is torn about this: She's sympathetic to prostitutes being able to earn their livelihoods, but this does take power away from Japanese women. The court ruling was issued...yes, by a man.

Susie speaks with author Jen Sincero about her new book You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life. This story is so odd, and has filled so many tabloid papers, that Susie decided to take a look at a recent public event that the now happily married couple organized.

Today's show starts off with a conundrum: if you're into S&M, is there such a thing as too much pain? Susie reads an article by sexpert Greta Christina that discusses masochist extremes. The story goes into the kinky paradox that inflicting pain allows an increase in the sexual fun level. And the more pain, the more thrill - but how much pain can a body stand? Teenagers are having less sex these days, and teen pregnancy is down. This all sounds pretty good, right? Susie begs to differ and looks at the real reasons behind the statistics. A recent article by Amy T. Schalet in The New York Times got Susie thinking about what's changed for boys. What role has religion, abstinence-based sex education, and Internet pornography played in boys wanting love, not just sex?

No more guys, both young and old, horsing around as the announcer suggests that taking Viagra is as common as swallowing an aspirin. Now the company wants women to order the drug. Susie found the details in The New Yorker, in an article by Ian Crouch. She says this approach is more honest.
