Historia
Romance can be a little complicated when you get sucked into a wormhole. Just ask high school English teacher June Flint. One little solar flare happens and suddenly you find yourself 85 years in the future. Eighty-five years from your dream job. Your ailing mother whose only companion in this world is you. Your favorite stuffed-crust pizza from DeLucia’s on Sunday nights. But when June’s cell phone inexplicably picks up a signal, she’s able to call back to the present—more specifically, four weeks before she accidentally time traveled.

Maybe a little over produced
Revisado: 05-19-24
I am a huge fan of Cara Bastone. Her dialogue is some of the best, it always sounds natural and she isn’t afraid to look at tricky topics. I’ve read most of her work. I realize she was probably strongly encouraged to give this one a unique twist. The wormhole and the preludes to the chapters were a “lot”.
So, it wasn’t my favorite but the performance was excellent and the characters were likable, so I would still recommend. The producer could probably go easier on the sound effects next time.

Super Fun Light Mysteries!!!!

Very light and cozy mysteries
Revisado: 03-22-24
Yes, I have listened as far as book 5 and will probably continue. That said, there are a few things I would change. 1) get an editor. There are some excruciatingly bad passages and numerous continuity issues in the series. Some are clearly plot devices but others make the series feel like it was written by different people. 2) do some research. Anyone with basic awareness will be baffled by some of the errors. Insurance doesn’t work like that, law enforcement doesn’t work like that, dog breeding…etc. every book there is some key piece that would ring a lot truer if some basic research had been done.
The books are fun, cute, simple to digest and in an attractive setting… but these are Real Housewives not Shakespeare. Definitely try to get them on sale.

Historia
Jayne takes Sinclair on a much-needed visit to her winter wonderland home, the North Pole. She wants him to see what her royal life is truly like. She knows the protocol and regulations that define her existence as heir to the Winter Throne aren’t for everyone and worries it will be more than he wants to handle. All seems well until a weird coincidence in a toy contest has some of the citizens of the North Pole giving Sinclair the side-eye. He’s a necromancer, and not everyone is okay with that.

You can finally stop here
Revisado: 05-14-23
I started Miss Frost as my first foray into the works of Kristen Painter. Book 1 was free and I was looking for something light. This series is light. Oh, so very very light. You can recommend it to your grandma light.
I have a hard time walking away from a book or movie until I know how it ends. I have more than once skipped ahead to the end of something really bad just so I can tie up the loose ends and move on with my life. This series had me trapped. The first book love triangle (feels like too strong a term.....friends who kiss and don't get jealous triangle is more accurate) dragged me into 4 more books. With this one I have enough closure to move on with my life.
They are cute, light, happy, unchallenging books. The stories all wrap up neatly and everyone is very well adjusted. I'm glad to be done reading them because the elf thing means there is a lot of discussion of sweets and a lot of big meals. It was a little like calorie porn. I found myself craving truffles constantly.
I can't say that I disliked the series. It's like watching Saved by the Bell. It isn't going to change your life, you only skim the surface with the characters and in the end you find yourself rooting for the yetis. But if you need to just turn off your brain and get a lot of super positive and cute into your life, there are worse things you could listen to.

Harriet and Wyn have been the perfect couple since they met in college—they go together like salt and pepper, honey and tea, lobster and rolls. Except, now—for reasons they’re still not discussing—they don’t. They broke up five months ago. And still haven’t told their best friends.

A character study, not a bodice ripper
Revisado: 05-14-23
When I looked at the reviews for this book there were a lot of readers complaining that the author wasn't as good as she used to be. I've only read one other book by her - People We Meet on Vacation - but I thought both books were excellent and would look for her other titles.
I think some people may have misunderstood what the book was going to be about. It is not a light hearted romance, and it definitely isn't frothy. It's a deep dive into big questions about what defines success, what grind culture does to us, what makes friendships last, how loneliness looks and feels and what it means to live a life happily. This book is very 2023. I imagine anyone under the age of 30 sees a lot of themselves in this story.
Like Penny Reid, the focus is on the characters and what makes them tick. There is very little resemblance to a Hallmark movie or bodice ripper format. We are on a journey with the central character to figure out what happened and what happens next. I appreciate that the characters have flaws and biases that derail them and that we are part of the journey to figure it all out. The love shared between Harriet and Wyn is so wonderful you can't help but root for their success. I thought it was a very enjoyable book.

Much better than the reviews
Revisado: 05-14-23
The reviews of this book are so inaccurate. First, the book is well written with a solid story progression and well developed characters. I'm excited to see if there will be more because it sets up a potential series.
The story is also what I consider a more modern love story. I've noticed that contemporary authors seem to be more into a study and exploration of growth for the characters. It's not all about "and then he ripped off my shirt". I prefer a book with some depth and development. The final scene dragged on a bit but the author had a lot to tie up.
The people who complain about the use of Spanish phrases are either not real bright or a little racist. Every time the character says something in Spanish the next lines of text define the phrase in English as part of the story. I don't speak Spanish and I found it all very easy to understand. A story about a Puerto Rican woman working in a Puerto Rican restaurant without Spanish would seem weird to me. The phrases are infrequent and added to the story. Although I don't speak Spanish I had no problem with the narrator. I thought she did an excellent job.
I enjoy a good romance. My job is complicated, I like to keep my reading simple. This is a good romance and it has one of my favorite qualities...I learned something new. In this case some of the basics of brewing whiskey and background about Puerto Rico. That's a win-win for me.

A very solid cozy mystery
Revisado: 02-23-23
The story was solid and the narration was excellent. I’m not quite sure what the negative reviews are about. My guess is that the book was sold on some platform as something besides a cozy mystery. If you are looking for a bodice ripper or a tight Sherlock mystery….this isn’t it.
But the character was believable. I didn’t find her to be whiny and I have no idea why there are reviews that sound like they were written by jealous high school rivals.
I plan to read the next book in the series.

A quick read can be fun
Revisado: 11-04-21
This felt forced. I would guess that audible put out a request for a story with multi-ethnicities, sports and a well educated female. ie: basically opposites of romance stereotypes. There’s a lot to work with there but this one falls short. The part where the Ivy League librarian shames a struggling reader “but captain underpants is easy” (sic) was my last straw. It underscored so well that the author had done only the simplest level of research on any of things s/he wrote about.

Historia
Safely away from the chaos of Manhattan, St. Thomas, a small college on the banks of the Hudson River, is supposed to be tranquil, bucolic, and serene. Unfortunately, English professor Alison Bergeron has found it to be anything but. Recently divorced and even more recently without a car - it was stolen - she has been hoofing it to school. One Friday evening, two homicide detectives drop by her office. The good news is that they found her beat-up Volvo; the bad news is that the body of one of her students was in the trunk.

Not exactly laugh out loud, but the story and plot were good. I don’t love the narrator, if the next one is as bad, I will try print instead. I really liked Allison. We need more mid-life, I don’t give a damn characters.

This was a great story. There are always so many great characters in a Hiaasen mystery and so many unexpected twists. I wish he were writing more books but appreciate the way he fully develops his story. I learned things about fishing I never knew before and laughed from beginning to end.
