Acerca de esta escucha

Clayton Sanders left home the minute he had his high school diploma in hand. He waited that long only because the army wouldn't accept him without one.

Now, 10 years later, he's home, with no warning, no advance notice, no anything after being gone 10 years with almost no contact with his family. Home carrying a secret that is burning him up from the inside. A secret that has pushed him to the brink, forcing him to become a criminal in order to be where his family needs him to be, even though they don't realize it yet.

Because Clayton knows something they don't. Something that hasn't happened but will. Something that will burn everything it touches. And change the face of the world forever.

the story is good hard to stop listening want to find out what happens next., on the other hand, it's almost too fortunate to even be considered apocalyptic survival. the narration reminds me of an old radio program from the 30s, and the character of clay sounds more like Ward Cleaver then a battle-hardened special ops type.

pretty engrossing

this book I started listening to and while intrigued by the story could not bear to listen to it and ended up buying the book to finish. recommend the story, enjoyable character interaction. this story ends soon after the event so I would not consider it a " post-apocalyptic" story. Get the book on this one though!

the narration was painful

I almost never write reviews; but, after reading the reviews available, I thought I should. I have enjoyed this series. I think part of that is for the series itself, and part of that is because of the crazy world we currently live in. This is a series of books that really makes you think about all of the possibilities that could happen if modern life fell apart. It's interesting, thought provoking and entertaining.

I've read several complaints about the narrator. I think he did a good job. He has a style of narrating just like all narrators do. His style may not be for everyone, but I believe he did justice to the story in his style. If you don't like his style, move on. I've done that with other narrators without leaving a review blasting them.

I've also listened to Odd Billy Todd and the Parno series and enjoyed each of them the same.

Ignore the criticism and listen to this series.

Fantastic book. Loved the story. Easy to understand. Strongly recommend it. Going to continue the series.

Very descriptive

Books 1-10 are awseome! The back and forth banter between the characters is great, and the storyline is highly entertaining!

Love it!

Here we have have a fairly engaging story that, though truly more fantasy in some ways (witch doctor?!), actually grew more irritating as it went on - due to the narrator. Here’s why:

When you have a young, Army Ranger who’s “voice” sounds like he’s in his 80’s instead of 20’s, the story takes a hit. A big hit.
Every character except the grandfather, who reminded me of a Looney Toons version of a “really old guy”, sound exactly the same - men, women and children. Okay, some female characters sound a bit different….but similar to grandpa, sound like a caricature.

Additionally, there’s not the slightest pause between change from characters’ conversations/locations, though that may merely be a result of poor editing. Either way, when Clay & his dad are discussing supplies but suddenly Laney (Lanie?) and grandpa are talking business somewhere across town, the two groups’ conversations tend to slide or merge without a slight pause. Annoying.

Otherwise….pretty entertaining.

Pity about the narrator

The character development is very thorough. Also at times I just thought what are the odds that the main character is former SOF with a tight knit group of SOF brothers and what are the odds of unlimited financial resources? All sorts of great ideas in this book but by and large only attainable I’d you’re a millionaire. Sometimes that was beyond the scope of reality, but in the midst of all that I still found the book very enjoyable, to the point that book 2 was a no-brainer. Te voice narration is worth the listen alone!!, excellent voice characterizations and he establishes those early in the book and carries it forward through to the end.. a good read altogether, very enjoyable once you get past all the resources these guys have.

It seems slow at times but...

I enjoyed almost everything about this tale. Thought provoking senario. One little annoyance, the word nodded is way over used, and the narrator pronounces it "nudded", over and over again. Other wise, well done.

liked alot about it, but

I enjoyed this book even though it wasn't what I was expecting. This book has some parts of action (fighting and firefights) but is mostly about how the main characters are preparing for and dealing with a disaster.

The narration was also good. The narration includes some minor extra effects which I feel like actually make the narration better and added to how some of the characters come across. This is unusual for me since I usually find extra effects to be distracting and a detriment to the story being told - not true in this case.

enjoyed this book

Not since James Wesley Rawles has a auther put together a different story , but so much information!! Can't wait to see what the next book has in store for the reader . A bold and elegant character development style is apparent. And shows that there will be more to come !5stars!

Really good story !
