Acerca de esta escucha

Once upon a time in Mayfair a group of wallflowers formed a secret society with goals that had absolutely nothing to do with matrimony. Their most troublesome obstacle? Rogues!

They call her Beastly Beatrice. Wallflower Lady Beatrice Bentley longs to remain in the wilds of Cornwall to complete her etymological dictionary. Too bad her brother’s Gothic mansion is under renovation. How can she work with an annoyingly arrogant and too-handsome rogue swinging a hammer nearby?

Rogue. Scoundrel. Call him anything you like as long as you pay him. Navy man Stamford Wright is leaving England soon and renovating Thornhill House is just a job. It’s not about the duke’s bookish sister or her fiery copper hair. Or the etymology lessons the prim-yet-alluring lady insists on giving him. Or the forbidden things he'd love to teach her.

They say never mix business with pleasure. But when Beatrice and Ford aren't arguing, they're kissing. Sometimes temptation proves too strong to resist...even if the cost is a heart.

a refreshing tale. I especially liked the narrator's take on M, but a good all round performance

enjoyable

fun story, typical romance with a few extra obstacles to overcome .use of word rogue a little redundant. looking forward to the other interesting characters of the ladies knitting society to be developed in the upcoming books

Lately, some of these romances are strident in their bemoaning of the plight of women or go too far beyond believable in re-writing what a young Victorian miss would be allowed.

Thankfully, this book isn’t too angsty or preachy and yet manages to give Beatrice some foreword thinking spirit. It was nice to see a flipped script, with Beatrice the daughter of a Duke and Ford a mere tradesman. I adored Beatrice’s obsession with word-history and with bringing old words back into use. I was charmed by Ford’s constant inner monologue as he attempts to resist the above-his-station bluestocking (“don’t think about the desk” … tee hee hee). There’s a few hankypanky scenes on the way to the single consummation, but it didn’t feel like too much of a slow burn thanks to the mostly lighter tone.

The class-conflict was a trifle overdone and the too-easy resolution was a trifle unbelievable.
But, in my regencies, I’ll take delightful over depressing every day of the week.

Darling, even with the feminist refrain

Lenora Bell has become one of my favorite authors. She has a fresh take on historical romances. Also, it doesn’t hurt that she usually sprinkles lots of steamy moments through her books, along with a couple of really great sexy scenes.
Why Ms Bell (or her publisher) continue to use Beverly A. Crick, as narrator, is beyond my comprehension! This was a really entertaining and well written book. Unfortunately, I felt like I had to SUFFER through it because of the irritating narration. Beverly A. Crick’s dreadful accent makes Mr. Wright sound ABSOLUTELY WRONG!

Great book, but...

I really enjoyed this book, my first read by Lenora Bell. Interesting characters with a bit of a quirky heroine. Both the hero and heroine have baggage to overcome to get their HEA, and Bell does it nicely. The angst was short which I liked. The "knitting" group is great. I will definitely be reading more by Lenora Bell.

Captivating Romance

My ears hurt from wearing headphones for so long. I literally couldnt stop listening. The story is beautifully written and perfectly voiced. And oh la la it had me blushing! A must read for sure. I cant wait for more audio books from Lenora Bell!

Could not put my phone down!

The only reason I didn’t love this is because there were a few goofy parts. I also don’t love the idea that true love can overcome any obstacle. My in-laws are a bit more well-off than my family and even though my husband and I are quite equal, it has caused issues at times. A good husband would feel guilty over not being able to provide. It would cause problems.

I liked this book

i tried with this one, i generally really love british historical novels, but the narrator was annoying, and her voices were distracting. the plot detail that the main character was a writer was fine, but the word choices were also just too precious. it made me hate her. i gave up at chapter five. just could not go on.

unable to listen to this.
