About this listen

A deadly assassin. A perpetual target. A double-cross she never saw coming…They say the truth will set you free, but what if it kills you first?

Before serial killers and drug cartels, Leine Basso faced the ultimate betrayal…

Leine eliminates terrorists for a living. After a routine assassination almost gets her killed, she chalks it up to a fluke. Her lover and fellow assassin, Carlos, has another idea altogether. He thinks their boss is setting them up for a fall.

When Carlos goes missing and a bombing thwarts another mission, Leine suspects the stakes are far higher than she could ever imagine, and wonders if the man in charge might have it in for her after all.

A Killing Truth is the prequel to the award-winning Leine Basso thriller series of crime novels. If you like no-nonsense heroines, nail-biting plots, and twists you won’t see coming, then you’ll love D.V. Berkom’s tension-filled series.

Almost nonstop action.

This book is almost nonstop action. In this story you'll witness the events that crafted Leine Basso into the woman she is today, seeing not only the physical punishment she endures, but the emotional/psychological. At only a little over three and a half hours you can pretty much listen to this in a single day, and given that it's quick pace you'll probably do what I did and listen to it in a single shot! Great introduction to the Leine Basso series.

This is the first time I've heard Kristi Alsip's narration work and I found I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Great book

A Killing Truth is a prequel novel in the award-winning Leine Basso series of high-octane thrillers by USA Today best-selling author D.V. Berkom. After reviewing Bad Traffick – book number two – a few years ago, I was more than happy to return to the series and listen to this recently released audiobook.

It was no surprise to see that this three hours and a half long audio adventure is well-written, fast-paced, extremely interesting, and truly entertaining. It was a thrill to discover the origin story four our badass protagonist and to see her juggling between the life of a skilled assassin, the one of a vulnerable young mother, and the complicated feelings she has towards her romantic male interest.

We are used to Leine fighting against drug cartels, serial killers, human traffickers, and other scrupulous individuals or organizations, but this is the beginning, the ultimate betrayal, the double-cross that she never saw coming.

American actress, vocalist, audiobook narrator, and voice artist Kristi Alsip is the narrator of choice for this entire series and she has returned to the recording booth in order to perform the audiobook version of A Killing Truth for the enjoyment and delight of audiobook listeners everywhere.

She delivers the story in her customary way, with enthusiasm and urgency, quickly reading, acting, and bringing each of the characters to life with different voices and seamlessly switching between accents. This being an action thriller, I think that she is just perfect for this kind of over-the-top adventure.

If you like action-packed, fast-paced thrillers driven by a page-turning plot and featuring a resilient woman character, you will definitely love A Killing Truth and the entire Leine Basso series!

I highly recommend this blockbuster adventure to all fans of Gale Lynds, Robert Ludlum, or Taylor Stevens.

Action packed!

First let me say I had no knowledge of any of the Leine Basso stories. With this being the prequel, I have to say WOW! This story had it all, action, intrigue, passion, and betrayal. Yes, I need to check out the rest of the series.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

MGun's Review

As this is a Prequel I'll grant a little leeway. Storyline and premise had promise but the drop-off at the end was predictable and didn't really elevate the reader wanting more. As series such as these are in abundance many of us can get to the "tell" early. Will look for next one to challenge and offer misdirection elevating the main character as well as her daughter's inevitable exposure and naivety.
