Publisher's summary

The third book in Michael Wood’s darkly compelling crime series featuring DCI Matilda Darke. Perfect for fans of Peter James, Lee Child and Karin Slaughter.

Eight killers. One house. And the almost perfect murder…

Starling House is home to some of the nation’s deadliest teenagers, still too young for prison.

When the latest arrival is found brutally murdered, DCI Matilda Darke and her team investigate, and discover a prison manager falling apart and a sabotaged security system. Neither the staff nor the inmates can be trusted.

The only person Matilda believes is innocent is facing prison for the rest of his life. With time running out, she must solve the unsolvable to save a young man from his fate, and find a murderer in a house full of killers…

STILL GOING STRONG

Story not quite as good as Wood’s previous two audiobooks, but still well-written and enjoyable. Same great narrator. Recommend a listen.

Another great Matilda Darke!

I just wish we would stop hearing about Carl. Solve it or stop mentioning him over and over again. Also the James situation.

DCI Darke - May I have more please?

The fourth and last book so far in the DCI Matilda Darke series, this dark, dismal and mysterious thriller takes us on a trip to Starling House. From here on, talented author Michael Wood and brilliant narration by Stephanie Beattie introduce us to a menagerie of ominous characters. I do so enjoy the intellect, humor and personality of DCI Matilda Darke and those are the reasons I purchased this book for $7.14. (Why waste a treasured credit?) The last few menacing (???) words of the audiobook left me wondering perhaps there may be more to come... Hmmmm. Highly recommended!

A mystery thick as a 20th century telephone book that delivers one heck of a good story with LOTS of interest. It is many hours.of
listening pleasure - a nod to locked room puzzles, several mentions of Hercules Poirot, an excellent narrator and a hint of
more teenage killers rodeos to come. 2019 thanks the author, the editors, production crew and Audible. You will, too.

Not up to par.

I felt like this never got good. I kept waiting to get into the story but just never hooked me. Boring.
