Publisher's summary

Never trust a dragon—even Jonathan knows that.

With his peaceful life as a scholar far behind him and his ever-growing mountain of debt to the Department of Taxation hanging over him, Jonathan can't afford to play it safe. If he wants to get his castle back, he'll need to take a few risks. At least he's not facing danger alone.

Whether it's his faithful butler, a former paladin, a shapeshifter who might have gotten stuck, a land-loving merman, a wandering werewolf, a huntress in disguise, or a raccoon who can remodel the landscape, Jonathan will have plenty of company as he runs (or is dragged) headlong into danger. And he'll need every bit of help he can get if he wants to make it through their next mission alive.

For once, Jonathan isn't the one being rescued. Nope. He and the others have been asked to brave the perils of a legendary dragon's labyrinth to help another vampire prove that love really does conquer all. Or maybe it doesn't when "all" includes elementals, zombies, and only the gods know what else. After all, nothing says probable death like a dragon with a smile.

Oh well. Jonathan might not be a fan of probable death… but he'll take it over certain death any day of the week.

it was adventurous from start to end!

I loved the way it references other books L.G Estrella has written. I look forward to more.

Fun enough

This was fun enough- not really an epic fantasy novel just lite and charming. Sometimes it’s nice to listen to a book where you’re confident everybody’s going to come through and be better in the end.

The characters have me!

I really enjoy the characters in this series. They are endearing and engaging. There are side stories that involved backstory, and even the characters introduced in those short stories have me emotionally involved. I’m looking forward to the next book.

The narrator

I love these books. I must admit that this narrator MAKES the story. His different voices and tone add to the thrill! I have actually looked around for other books he has performed. Kudos!

It’s been forever since a written world drew me in enough to laugh and cry.

5 stars tells you i like this book. what it doesn’t convey is that little “random” mentions and build ups in two prior books set up (at least for me) the perfect storm of character understanding, world building, and retrospective. To actually feel in the moment what the reader was conveying in such a way that i didn’t realize i’d started to tear up until the first sob burst out. I’m 47…. that just doesn’t happen.
It’s been decades of thin, pandering, cookie cutter dribble trying to nostalgia mine, and life in general that probably lead to alot of this jaded old farts hardened perspective. And not since Terry Pratchett’s Disc World has a written world been so alive to me. I ‘m grateful I found this series. It gives me hope there are more like it not just coming from the author but, just out there in general. Thanks for finding my imaginations soft spot again. can’t wait for more!

I'm not crying you're crying.

look I am about 90% of the way through this book. I love how we get to see old characters we get to see do characters and none of them I forgot. yes the original crew gets a large part, but new friends and faces get their own parts that make them feel useful and unique. also there's a part about 2 hours from the end that will make you think someone's cutting onions. it is good to know that everything is linked and it's a beautiful story so far I will come back and update this when I finish it in about two and a half hours.

So so good!

This was my favorite in the series so far! It took me awhile to get into book 1, book 2 got me hooked and this one sealed my love for these characters! Such a good story and the performer is phenomenal!! The way he can slip between accents is a gift. Plus, it totally made me tear up at a brief encounter with an old friend from another series who I think may be more involved in the next installment?! please please please more of all of them!!

Diverse funny characters

Love the dragons, back stories and plot. The speaker has great range and I can see the characters, landscape, and fight sequences.

He keeps adding depth. very much enjoyed it

He does not just tell a story from point a to b. Instead he builds a world with relationships, nuances, and depth. So I am patiently , possibly not so happily, waiting for the next book

Favorite one yet

This story was truly beautiful and fun. You’ll be dicing onions towards the end. In a way this is actually three stories in one go that manage to fit together in the end. I also enjoyed the quick shout outs to other characters in other series. But my most favorite part is the simple friendship between dragon, raccoon, and squirrel and how one deals with loss
