Popcorn for the Brain

I love books that teach me new things about history, science or ethical dilemmas. I love books that make me think and test assumptions. I love to have my opinions and convictions challenged and stringently tested. This book has absolutely none of those attributes!

Every once and awhile I love a kick-back book that entertains me while not challenging me in any way. This whole series qualifies. The narrator is absolutely perfect for this genre. Yes there is some gratuitous sex from time to time, but what one of us doesn't secretly like a little bit of that.

If you want to be in a true, happy brainless state for a short period, these books are consistently excellent.

Big Jack

Another great audiobook from JD Robb and the narrator. The only problem is this is labeled as book 17.5 but it’s really 16.5. I listened to book 16 and and it seemed to happen after this book.

The best narrator

I am a big fan of this series. The novellas are a nice bridge until the next full-length novel. There is a lot of story packed in these little gems.

As with all the In Death books Susan Erickson does an excellent job telling the story.

Eve and Rorark are Great

What did you love best about Big Jack?

I love everything about these books so it is hard to pick a single episode. If you like the series, you'll love this book

Who was your favorite character and why?

Eve is always my favorite. Peabody was cute in this one since she was just becoming a detective but still I have to say Eve.

Which scene was your favorite?

I liked them all. How many ways can Eve figure out the murder scene with Roark without having Roark try to kiss her. It is just too funny to listen to. I like all the scenes that Roark shows up.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

No.

Voices

The voices of the characters are different than the other books 1 through 17. Other than that it was good

Enjoyed this second of a two parter.

I enjoyed the idea and the execution of the two part book written by different pen names in the different genres. When I saw the audible for part two I had to get it.

As usual Erickson does a great job. Having just recently listened to book 54 it’s funny listening to this one where Peabody is a newly minted detective!

The story is twisty with interesting theories working through. Fun to see Eve’s process throughout, especially juxtaposed with killer’s POV.

Almost missed it

Because this wasn't written with "death" in the title I almost missed it. It was one of the faster-moving story lines. Loved it! (It's right after Peabody makes Detective.)
