Dr. Georgia Ede MD
About this listen
Combine the surprising truth about brain food with the cutting-edge science of brain metabolism to achieve extraordinary emotional, cognitive, and physical health.
Are you struggling with attention problems, mood swings, food obsession, or depression? Whatever the issue, you have far more control over your thoughts, feelings, and behavior than you realize. Although medications may bring some relief, in Change Your Diet, Change Your Mind, Dr. Georgia Ede reveals that the most powerful way to change brain chemistry is with food, because that’s where brain chemicals come from in the first place.
In this provocative, illuminating guide, Dr. Ede explains why nearly everything we think we know about brain-healthy diets is wrong. We've been told the way to protect our brains is with superfoods, supplements, and plant-based diets rich in whole grains and legumes, but the science tells a different story: not only do these strategies often fail, but some can even work against us. The truth about brain food is that meat is not dangerous, vegan diets are not healthier, and antioxidants are not the answer.
Change Your Diet, Change Your Mind will empower you to:
- understand how unscientific research methods drive fickle nutrition headlines and illogical dietary guidelines
- weigh the risks and benefits of your favorite foods so you can make your own informed choices about what to eat
- evaluate yourself for signs of insulin resistance—the silent metabolic disease that robs your brain of the energy it needs to thrive
- improve your mental health with a choice of moderate-carbohydrate and ketogenic diets that you can personalize to your food preferences and health goals
Drawing on a wide range of scientific disciplines including biochemistry, neuroscience, and botany, Dr. Ede will ignite your curiosity about the fascinating world of food and its role in nourishing, protecting, and energizing your brain.

Story
Most diet books teach you to set short-term weight loss goals. Whether low-carb or low-fat, the typical plan goes like this: restrict your food choices, exercise until exhaustion, and swallow stacks of supplements. These “solutions” do a better job of lightening your wallet than lightening you. Meanwhile, the healthcare industry fails to prevent chronic disease. Rather than showing people how to remain healthy and prevent illness through proper nutrition, the system offers drugs and surgery to manage symptoms.

After two centuries of conflicting medical advice, most authorities today believe that those with diabetes can have the same dietary freedom enjoyed by the rest of us, leaving the job of controlling their disease to insulin therapy and other blood-sugar-lowering medications.

In Your Brain Is a Time Machine, brain researcher and best-selling author Dean Buonomano draws on evolutionary biology, physics, and philosophy to present his influential theory of how we tell and perceive time. The human brain, he argues, is a complex system that not only tells time but creates it; it constructs our sense of chronological flow and enables "mental time travel" - simulations of future and past events.

Excellent in depth analysis
I’ve read many books on nutrition, in the double digits. This is my second overall favorite, in terms of broad discussion, specific nutritional information and advice, implementability, new information presented, and insights offered by the very qualified and experienced author. If you need to heal your body and your brain, or are helping someone else to do so, get this book and follow it’s instructions. This book should be required reading in all high school health programs. It would revolutionize mental and physical health. Let this wash over you. Read it twice. Unbelievably helpful.

Deep dive into nutrition and mental health
This book will help me explain nutrition to my patients. I have already experienced how dietary change can change the mind. This book fills in the blanks for me and gave me new tools for explanation.
Also practical things that I can use in my practice.

There is something gratifying about reading a detailed description of why what I have already seen makes sense. I "believe" the contents of this book because I already can give examples of success in my practice. When treating metabolic syndrome improvements in mood is commonly seen. This gives me motivation to try and work closely with patients who have more debilitating psychiatric conditions.
I am share this book which hopefully will get my patients to ask for help putting it into practice.

Food has a larger impact on mental health than you would think
In hindsight, it is so logical that food would have a large impact on mental health. Turns out if you feed your body what it was designed to run on, good things happen. Psychiatry, being captured by the drug industry, has bypassed this fact for many decades until recently...it's not good for profits. Great to see Dr. ede and others pursuing this. How long will it take for the establishment to stuff them out? Great narration by the author. Highly recommend.

Severe Mental health changed by diet, amazing!
"Change Your Diet, Change Your Mind" is a compelling exploration of the profound connection between nutrition and mental health. The book underscores the significant impact that dietary choices can have on cognitive function, emotional stability, and overall mental well-being.
One of the standout aspects of the book is its comprehensive approach to understanding the science behind food and its effects on the brain. It delves into the roles of various nutrients, such as omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, and vitamins, and how deficiencies or imbalances can contribute to mental health issues like depression, anxiety, and cognitive decline. This aligns well with my belief that what we eat plays a crucial role in both our mental and physical health.
The author, Georgia Ede, also emphasizes the importance of a holistic and individualized approach to diet. Rather than advocating for a one-size-fits-all solution, the book encourages readers to understand their unique nutritional needs and how these needs can be met through diet/way of life. This resonates with the idea that integrating mindful eating practices can lead to better health outcomes.
Moreover, "Change Your Diet, Change Your Mind" doesn't just focus on the biological aspects of nutrition but also considers the psychological and social dimensions a well. It explores how food choices are influenced by culture, habits, and especially emotions, and offers practical strategies for making healthier choices in these contexts. This comprehensive perspective supports the belief in a holistic approach to health, where physical and mental well-being are deeply interconnected.
In conclusion, "Change Your Diet, Change Your Mind" is a thoughtful and enlightening read that effectively bridges the gap between nutrition and mental health. It aligns well with the belief that integrating mindful dietary practices is essential for overall well-being, offering both scientific insights and practical advice for making positive changes in one's diet and lifestyle.
