About this listen

Sid Halley, the ex-champion jockey turned private investigator, is facing new dangers, new deeply demanding decisions.

His friend Ellis Quint has everything he could want: fame, youth, money, good looks, and talent. What Sid has to figure out is why he has committed such an obnoxious crime. On the morning set for the opening of Ellis’s trial, at which Sid is due to be called as a witness, other people’s miseries explode and send him spinning into days of hard rational detection and heart-searching torment.

Troubled, courageous and unwilling to admit defeat, for Sid Halley it is business as usual...

Interesting but not my favorite

The plot for the story is very good and very interesting examining all kinds of people and what makes them do what they do. However, it seems to me that it could’ve used a little better editing because it was rather tedious in places for me to read. But I loved Dick Francis so I’m not really very critical.

Book 3 of the Sid Halley series by Dick Francis. Nothing disappoints, highly recommend you read the entire series and frankly, all of the Dick Francis books. :)

Sid Strikes Again!

Enjoyed this book, had to keep listening. It was hard to stop. The crime was thoroughly horrific, almost couldn’t get past it. It was like watching a train wreck. Hard to peel your eyes off. But you got to know what happens. Sid is a very intuitive investigator. Wish he wasn’t always getting hurt. Narrator is the best! I’m looking forward to next Sid book!

Excellent!

Not only is the storyline, totally engaging, but Tony Britton does a terrific job acting out the entire story audibly (no pun intended).

Good but a bit repetitive

Overall another good and enjoyable Syd Haley detective story. The plot was a bit repetitive, reflective of previous torturing villains. Excellent narration. Overall definitely worth a listen.

Well developed plot, and masterful presentation by Simon Prebble.

I thoroughly enjoyed both the book two and this one. I wish Simon Prebble would do more of these books, he does such a good job with all the voices

Very good story

I don’t understand the psychological desire to do evil but the story is well developed. And the vulnerability of Sid as well. My only critique is the inclusion of near death experiences in every book. Story would be just as good if he hadn’t ended up in hospital! But I enjoy the books and Simon Prebble could not be better!

Excellent...

I had to give this a five-star rating even though I was not so crazy about the animal cruelty and violence to humans. While the writing and narration are absolutely stellar that stuff just ain't my cup of tea and some of the extended sequences were rather intense. Nevertheless the craftsmanship story dialogue and particularly the amazing narration are most worthy of five stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟

I love Dick Francis!

I can’t stop listening. And Simon Prebble is one of the best narrators ever!! He IS the character. The emotions, the flow, he captures it all perfectly. If I could give this book more stars I would.

Dick Francis Forever

I believe that of all DF protagonists, Sid Halley IS DF ! This particular book proves it! Tungsten describes the Great Dick Francis to a T! He is greatly missed.
