Inspirational, Literary and Practical All in One!

Most gardening books are very dry reading but right from the first paragraph of the introduction, ("Imagine your garden - greens of every hue stretch out, punctuated by blush red tomatoes...") this book is a pleasure and inspiration to read. It is full of metaphor ("Think of it as choosing who to sit next to in a busy cafe") and alliteration ("Worms wiggle... making tiny tunnels"). In addition to being a delight to read, this book is packed with practical information presented in an easy to understand format. It includes chapters on all the individual steps of preparing the soil, planning and planting your garden and harvesting. The many charts, lists and photographs aid initial understanding and make later reference easy. Each chapter has a "Key Takeaway" to sum up what was covered. This book is designed to make beginning gardeners successful but experienced gardeners will enjoy reading it too because it is so well written.
