About this listen

Society is gone. Darkness falls. But family endures…

Laurel was working in the ER, stabilizing a patient, when the unthinkable happened. An EMP hit. The power went out. And it never came back. In the devastating aftermath, she must turn South Minneha Hospital into a place of refuge, a beacon of hope for her fellow survivors. But a beacon attracts predators, too…

Predators like Arlo Staaf, the brutal leader of a ruthless gang. Desperate to save his dying son, Arlo takes over the hospital and gives Laurel an impossible ultimatum: save his terminally ill boy, or watch everyone she cares for die.

Meanwhile, her husband Bear prepares in a remote wilderness cabin, alone save for his loyal dog, Jessamine. War and PTSD have cost him everything. But with the old world gone, he gains a new purpose. Laurel is hundreds of miles away from his mountain retreat. But he knows she needs him now, more than ever.

Navigating through the ruins of a world gone mad, Bear must face treachery, desperation, and endless miles of unforgiving wilderness. But he’ll do whatever it takes to reunite his family.

As the first winter storm blows in, Bear and Laurel face their greatest challenge yet—survival. But they’ll face it together…

Addicting

These first 3 books are action packed and full of adrenaline. The story was packed and fast flowing. I really loved the family dynamics. The villains are believable and not just your average bad guys. I highly recommend this series for anyone who loves the end of the world scenarios as much as I do.

Very Realistic Post Apocalyptic!

This was a great audiobook and a great story all together. Devoured this in 3 days, never wanted to stop listening. I would have loved to listen to this with multiple narrators, each chapter is from a different person’s point of view. Great listen, completely recommend!

The way it’s written is exquisite

I liked the way they showed different perspectives. As well as a nice change of pace from the normal run and gun down everyone style of other writers

An EMP Happens

In this Story an EMP happens (never told how this occurred) an people just minutes before everything goes out get a text from the government stating an emp occurred.
This has found family, desperation for family members, sperated family trying to find each other. Narrator does a Great job with the characters and entire storyline.

Good post emp story, not as dark as others

Enjoyed listening to this audiobook, was a good post emp story. Decent characters, not as dark or “madmax” world as others, but still good and bad characters to keep it moving along at a good pace.

Refreshing

This book truly gives me hope that one of my favorite genres is not going stale. EMP aftermath addresses the hopes that we all have on how humanity would respond in the times of crisis and the harsh reality for how a large part of humanity truly would respond and has for ages.

The character development is what leads you to keep listening without slowing the book down. I highly recommend this and look forward to future volumes.

One Of The Best Audiobook I Have Listened To in A

I love this I couldn't stop listening. This was a great story. I loved it all the characters, the world building and the drama. I can't wait to get the rest to finish the story. The narrator was fabulous. I highly recommend.

Great narration, the characters are well written and likeable.

I enjoyed the story, 30 hours for 1 credit is a great value, the character's are likeable and there is some character development in the antagonists which was great to see. Lots of books just have bad guys with no redeeming qualities. That said there are a lot of details that are off, cordless angle grinder that lasts hours, calling magazines clips, worrying about using gas in a chainsaw while passing disabled vehicles full of fuel all over the place. Protagonists that come up with brilliant plans to save the day but wiff simple things like not repairing glasses or having hanging onto a hearing aid to see if it could be repaired. It was enough that it pulled me out of the story periodically. I tend to get hung up on that stuff so maybe it's just me but it's worth a listen in any case.

The story is fair, but you’ll die if you follow any of the survival techniques.

I’m halfway through the second book in the series. There are weird jumps that don’t make sense and I struggle with the voices the narrator uses. They seem whiney throughout so far. Seriously don’t light trashcan fires for heat in indoor rooms. Also where are all the rest of the people?

Good Concept but Unrealistic Plot Threads

I love the idea of a story that deals with how a city hospital battens down the hatches to survive an apocalyptic event. There are definitely some good characters. My beef with the story is that I believe the characters, who are obviously smart, generally reacted unrealistically.or foolishly to their situations with unlikely outcomes to ther reactions. Also - the characters seemed generally uninteested in what caused the EMP. There is no explanation for why the plumbing still seemed to work, and the police never make an appearance. AND I have to wonder where the general popualation went -- the only people mentioned had relevance to the plot. The author writes well - I would just recommend that she consider if somebody is pointing a gun at you and say they are going to kill you, maybe the more realistic (& smarter) action would be to kill the threat at your earliest opportunity instead f disarming the threat and shooing them away.
