Publisher's summary

Evangelina is as everyday as women come. If she were a landscape, she'd be a patch of woods on the edge of a fallow Indiana field, her edges visible from all directions from miles away. Nothing special on the outside. A disturbance to nobody. One might think her a boring, self-contained Midwestern housewife.

Mixing humor and sincerity, Dawn Burns roots her debut collection firmly in the minutiae of Midwestern life, focusing on the inner life of one who suffers the annoyances of a Midwestern lifestyle in a manner all her own, a manner filled with anxious contemplation of the worth of her life.

Evangelina is the voice of women in search of themselves

This book, less a narrative and more a collection of moments, is well written, pithy, and gets at the heart of self exploration in mid life. I felt so much of myself in Evangelina. A kind soul, struggling to truly know and see herself in a world that doesn’t make space for women to always be who they truly are. At the heart of it, this book is about self love, and how transformative it is when we stop hiding and making ourselves small. Going on this journey with Evangelina reminded me that those small moments are often much larger than we realize, and how important it is to let go and embrace our true selves. I loved getting to know this woman and follow her journey and awakening. Be sure to check it out!
