Publisher's summary

Heaven's Gate was a video game Alfred didn't intentionally join.

In fact, it wasn't technically a video game.

Alfred had somehow ended up on a planet millions of miles away from Earth, but with dungeons, hot girls, and strange creatures appearing at every turn. Just like a video game he could complete missions for experience, and even join a guild and play with friends. It almost seemed like a normal world until he discovered that in the planet, Heaven's Gate, your dreams could come true if you were brave enough to enter into the hardest dungeons.

He runs into some friends and foes in the game, and tries his hardest to conquer the legendary dream dungeons where all your dreams can come true if you can just survive. If you wish to revive someone, or learn a few "broken" skills, you can do it at the apex of Heaven's Gate.

Luckily, he's been training in martial arts since he was a kid, and seems to have a natural advantage in the game thanks to his martial prowess and sharp mind.

Fast Paced

I was given this book for free in exchange for an honest review.
I love LitRPG books it was fast paced but the character development did not suffer. I have found some LitRPG novels fail in balancing story with game play but I thought this story did a pretty good job with that. If you enjoy the lighter side of this style I would say it is worth a listen.

A decent LitRPG

I received a free copy of this book and exchange for an unbiased review. well I liked it quite a bit I just don't feel like it added anything new to the genre. you can really tell the author is a big fan of the genre, but I don't feel like it adds anything new to the genre.

Interesting

Very interesting story. Overall, it was good. Had a couple areas it needed improvement, but still great.

Narration was okay, but also noticed a number of errors left in.

what happens next

Brought back from the dead into a game-like world, would you risk your new life to bring back the ones you love? Fast moving story full of action and adventure and puzzles to be solved. Good narration as well. I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

LitRPG lite!

Quite the odd bit of fantasy. It is billed as LitRPG, and it does have some game mechanics to exploit, but it is unlike any LitRPG title I have read before. Our protagonist Alfred is transported to another world. The world appears to be a dungeon diving game where experience points are earned and can be traded. Skills are quickly gained as are levels. The fights with beasts and monsters are well done, but that seems to be the closest resemblance to the LitRPG genre. The harem theme is non-existent and there is a faint hint of sexual contact. It took some concentration to follow the narrator’s heavy accent, but it is doable; definitely not my favorite. Three.point.five for uniqueness. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

neat mechanics but needs a bit more polishing

Has some really interesting ideas and the characters can be pretty realistic most of the time. It does feel a bit rushed with the progression of the character skills and levels and so do the relationship dynamics. They are are both full of content yet shallow at the same time. Has some really cool ideas like using experience points as currency that I wish was utilized a bit differently. Voice narrator did pretty well with male and female voices does have aaa bit of a constant drawl that isn't bad but just a bit noticeable.

I Want More!

When reading LitRPGs, I have come across some that are incredibility simplistic and even juvenile. This is particularly true for ones marketed to adults. Heaven’s Gate is not one of those. Rather, it is a fun tale that is both creative and entertaining. My only critique is that it was far to short to adequately develop the characters and their complicated relationships. Further, while it claims to contain harem elements, none were overly apparent. Rather, it seemed like the author could be leading towards adding that in future books. Thus, the feel of Heaven’s Gate was like watching the first episode of a TV series. It was good in itself, but it would likely be way better if it was longer. Overall, the story is well worded and the storyline is compelling. By the end, I found myself drawn in and wanting more.

What an Adventure!!!

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. I think this is an incredible book. It leaves you on the edge of your seat the whole time you read it. I personally felt the story didn't need all the sexual innuendo but each author writes differently and moves the story along in different ways. Otherwise, what an excellent adventure!! Looking forward to listening to the next book in the series!!!
