About this listen

Gold fever swept the world in 1897. The chance for untold riches sent thousands of dreamers on a perilous trek toward their fortunes, failures, or deaths. Follow four English aristocrats and their Irish servant as they misguidedly haul their dreams across cruel Canadian terrain toward the Klondike gold fields.

Another great adventure!

Michener was such a talented writer. You get caught up completely on the story! The last chapter is how he came to write it, very interesting.

I loved this book! I have visited this area twice and felt very connected to the story. There were many twists and turns that kept me interested throughout the book.

Captivating Story!

Well done. I found myself wishing this story could go on, but it couldn't! Makes you imagine yourself right there with the characters.

Michener at his best

Listened to this on the heels of Alaska. Added another view of those headed to the Klondike from Canada.

Michener Doesn't Dissappoint

My great grandfather went to the gold fields around 1903 and he was not heard from until his wife had remarried believing he had died. Three years went by and he returned to Minnesota to reclaim his wife and child. I wondered how such a thing could happen but, now I realize it did happen more often than anyone knew. He was quite the figure in our family and this story has helped me understand him more. I loved Michener's wonderful epilogue describing how he studied and researched to ensure this book was authentic. It sure seemed to me that he had the grasp of the whole situation. I've read almost all of Michener's books since I was a young girl. Hawaii was my favorite. I live in the "Centennial" state and you know I had to read that one as well.

A Michener short story.

If you enjoyed Michener's Alaska, you'll enjoy Journey as well. If you're wondering whether you'll enjoy Alaska, start with Journey.

gripping...wilderness theatre...

One of the BEST books by Michner...I felt the cold and the man foolishness and pride....gripping story...followed with Journey...the Canadian side of the Alaskan story...which I will now downliad...all captivating.

Great book!!

The narrator is so good!! Unlike other readers I loved him. He reminded me of a wonderful Uncle that would tell stories in the evening!

So exciting!

I did something I have never done before. About ⅔ of the way through this book, I googled it to find out if there was a happy ending. The story was so exciting and I felt so invested in the characters that I didn't feel I could go on if it were all to end in tragedy.
So I finished the story. There's a lot to be learned about human character, negative and positive, and about endurance from this story.
If you've watched any TV shows about living off the grid, especially in cold climates, you will relate to this book. The only part I did not care for was the final chapter which consists of the author explaining how and why he wrote it. Normally, I like this sort of thing. But this time, I found most of it boring. Only about the last 30 seconds of the final chapter were interesting.

I love this book and highly recommend to others

Another compelling story mixed with historical events to educate the reader; James Michener never disappoints.
