Essential Leadership Skills for Influencing and Managing People

Leadership is not something people are necessarily born with – it can be learned. The most effective way to learn leadership is through the techniques of Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP). NLP is a set of skills for psychologically influencing people (using body language, verbal techniques and other practical methods).

This book will help readers to:
• find their own leadership style
• think strategically
• empower others
• overcome resistance

Not worth the time or money

What disappointed you about Leading with NLP?

The book recaptures old, worn out, run down ideas on what it takes to lead. And also what is not Leadership. Other people have done a much better job at it. 'NLP' in the title seems only to make it sound new and mysterious.

What could Joseph O'Connor have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Focus on what edge does NLP bring... how it makes a difference using NLP, rather than old established leadership, i.e. if there was any difference. I don't need Leadership 101 - please do not mislead people by using 'NLP' in the book name, as if it is a new better way.

How could the performance have been better?

The reading is like a priest reading holy messages to a death row inmate. The reader sounds like he is feeling the pain of the inmate.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Leading with NLP?

the whole book

Aweful

What was most disappointing about Joseph O'Connor’s story?

The author tries to write more of a leadership book than a NLP book. For example, I don't even think he mentioned neurolinguistic programming until halfway through the book. He spends too much time teaching fundamentals of leadership than using NLP principles to achieve the goal of leadership. If he is some expert on leadership, it would have been better for him to mention a few credentials first.
