Publisher's summary

Still having questions about the new world he's been dropped into, Ethan has more pressing concerns figuring out who or what is killing the wizards. Unfortunately, the only source of those answers seems to be the members-only library of the Order of the Scroll. Of course, he can join and read all the books he wants - but there's a catch.

The custodians of the library first want him to retrieve some lost tomes from an abandoned library in a ruined city. Seems simple, right? Not a chance. Did they forget to mention that no one who's entered the library has ever returned? To make matters worse, Ethan almost kills himself learning a new type of magic, but it might just be the key to making it out of this crazy adventure alive.

Join Ethan and friends in the second exciting installment of the Abduction Cycles!

Waiting for next book!

The story is opening up and I'm not sure of it's direction but it is still entertaining. Maybe we will find aliens crash landed who need help to get home?

fairly good but

Dumb characters do dumb things for dumb reasons. Ethan is no rocket scientist and still suspects this might be a game but takes the dangers seriously, naya and ainsly continually treat everything like a game and outright refuse to consider the world they are in and put any forethought into their actions beyond the couple stereotypes they were assigned at the beginning of the series. Zero character growth for them and it's beginning to get annoying. Often times they are more of a hindrance than a boon and Ethan really needs to slap the crap out of them and set up a party leader, or go his own way and leave them to do their own thing.

Another great installment in the series!

Fun adventure with some interesting twists and likeable characters. I like how they have developed and changed over the course of the series. Can't wait for Book 3!

Kill the dwarf

From a thousand feet, this is an interesting plot with definite effort and thought into the plot progression. However, the characters are seriously 2D...to an extent that I was actively rooting for the death of the dwarf. I don’t think I will be continuing the story, but I might check in to see where the plot ends up.

Impossible to like protagonist

The story is interesting, the narrator is amazing, and the side characters are fun and quirky. But the main character. Oh boy, he is dumb. Not just unintelligent, he is abysmally indecisive and horribly diffident. He is supposed to be a knowledgeable and smart young man, but every sentence he speaks is meek, whiny, and ends in “I think”.
It drives me crazy

I do not recommend this book to anyone.

Review

Pros about this book- interesting universe the store is built in, has a lot of potential and I enjoy the magic system. simple but yet complex. Plenty of room for the story and the universe to grow.

Cons about this book- The performance by JS Arquin was very weak for the story. Comes off robotic and boring. I was hoping he would improve in book 2 but he hasn’t🤷‍♂️. Another downside to the story, is the main characters love interest. I’m not sure if it sounds better reading or listening to but it comes off force!!!. Of the right in between the two characters very very bad!!. I felt like it was written for a 13 year old!!. Which pretty much ruined most of the book for me. I’ve listen to other audiobooks where the writer made the same mistake in this book, but made corrections in the second book. I’m hoping that is the case with the third book in the installment.

I’m hoping in the third book he focus mostly on the magic system and building of the universe and overall story. And character development and less on sex!. You don’t need to use sex to sell your book!!!. John Elijah chessman as a pretty interesting story here. I just really wish he had more confidence in his writing.
