About this listen

A year after the devastating murder of his wife, attorney David Sloane has returned to Seattle after three months in Mexico. At a black-tie dinner where he’s been persuaded to give the keynote address, Sloane reconnects with Barclay Reid, opposing counsel in his most prominent case. Barclay is suffering from her own personal tragedy - the death of her teenage daughter from a drug overdose. In the aftermath, Barclay has begun an intense crusade against the Russian drug traffickers she holds responsible for her daughter’s death, pursuing them with a righteousness that matches Sloane’s own zeal for justice. Despite their adversarial past, Sloane is drawn to Barclay and for the first time since his wife died, he finds himself beginning to have romantic feelings again. But when Barclay’s crusade stalls and a Russian drug dealer turns up dead, she stands accused of murder, and Sloane is her chosen defender. Amid the swirling media frenzy, in his first criminal case, Sloane finds himself once again in harm’s way, while mounting evidence suggests that Barclay is a woman with many secrets - and may not be quite as innocent as she seems.

With his signature fast-paced, page-turning action and exhilarating plot twists, Robert Dugoni once again proves why he’s so often been named the heir to Grisham’s literary throne.

A 5 star legal thriller in the David Sloane series

I like Robert Dugoni's Tracy Crosswhite detective thriller series more than his David Sloane legal thriller series. Nevertheless, this David Sloane thriller is outstanding. The twist near the end gets this novel extra credit. There is lots of action and suspense both inside and outside the courtroom. Highly recommended.

Excellent!

I started with the Tracy Crosswhite books, then Charles Jenkins. So it made sense for me to read the David Sloane series next. I was so excited to find the characters from the Crosswhite and Jenkins books all wrapped in this one book. Especially since I was bummed having just finished both of those series and I was missing the characters.
I thought the story was a little slow at times. . But those moments were brief. I thoroughly enjoyed the story. But was missing Eduardo Ballerini :(

Another great book by Dugoni!!

This book was very good, if not great!! Lots of twists and turns, and they just kept coming yo the end...which I didn't see happening. The narrator was most excellent, really made the words come alive in my imagination!!

Wow! More Twists and Turns!

The best I've read of his yet! Twists and turns and I had to finish - HAD to finish! I am afraid to say anything because I don't want to give it away -- Excellent! He is a good mystery writer, giving us clues on many fronts that work together.

A Page Turner

I am now hooked on this series! David Sloan and his supporting characters have elevated to new depths and complexities that should continue to be an award winning series. While I guessed whi is the killer early on, the pleasure was the po process in getting there, beautifully developed and satisfying.

Good Legal Book

This was an interesting story. Robert Dugoni ties real events and places to his story which is always interesting. This is a good book just like the rest of his novels.
