Publisher's summary

Chicago homicide detective Kate Delaney fiercely defends victims - which is why, despite death threats, she's testifying to a federal grand jury about local police corruption. It's also why she's infuriated by the New Orleans police department's blasé attitude toward her estranged sister's death. But pursuing an investigation in a strange city means allying with someone who knows the territory. And the players. Someone with a total disregard for the rules.

As an ex-cop from a police family, New Orleans PI Nick Broussard knows that cops live by their own code. You don't rat out a fellow officer. The last thing he needs is some smart-mouthed, by-the-book outsider unknowingly injecting herself into his undercover search for the truth. Even worse is the way she conjures up visions of tangled sheets.

Nick and Kate's chase pits them against the criminal underworld of the sultry southern city. And as they peel away layers of deadly deception, they discover a dark secret that too many are willing to kill to keep.

Critic reviews

"Sizzles with the sensuality and danger fans of her romantic thrillers have come to expect....her deliberate pace pays off in the powerful, action-packed conclusion." (Publishers Weekly)

Good story but..

I thought this was a good suspense story and loved the twists it took, if not a little predicatable. I could have done without the much too long love/sex scenes. I fast forwarded through most of them.

Good book!

JoAnn Ross seems to excel in this genre. Great story, well-developed characters and steamy romance. You won't be disappointed.

If a Gator Could Smile

If you could sum up No Safe Place in three words, what would they be?

Sassy, humorous, Sexy. I purchased as Susan Denaker reads Every Breath You Take, Judith Mc Naught, and I wanted to hear her other work. She is a good reader, using her voice to make our hero as yummy as can be. Ms Denaker, your Leon LeBlanc voice is your best. You should stay with it. Please stop using a southern high pitcher voice in your women in new reads. Thank goodness your female voice on this read was great. You need to speed up your pace ie: Sizzle from Julie Garwood was just too slow and reviewers agreed. Today's listener wants a faster pace, that is what is killing your reads.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Absolutely, from word one. This is a 2005 romance, make no mistake. Good plot/mystery, but the sassy & sexy dialogue is what this story offers. If it is a fast pace mystery you want, this is not it.

Which scene was your favorite?

author had great sassy dialogue between our hero and heroine, which had me listening 8 hrs straight. I did not want this story to end. You do not get many reads you can say that about. I have to put this right up there with Linda Howards After the Night. There were so many scenes that I will re listen to this book.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I have downloaded Burn by this author, I can only hope it is as good as this one as Susan reads that book as well. I do not like Coleen M reads, so I will not be purchasing JoAnn R. books that are read by her. If you like this reader, then by all means get JoAnn R. books as her dialogue is NOT to be missed.

Any additional comments?

Misrepresented

I bought "No Safe Place" as a Mystery & Thriller but what I got belongs in Romance. I've nothing against tits, nipples, erections, and the like but not as the basis for what Audible touts as a mystery/thriller. The depth of the story can be characterized as follows: "...as she drew her gun she could only think of his pulsing loins..." This book is 30% decent story hidden among 70% romantic fluff. Don't waste your time and money.

Not As Good As I Remembered

I read No Safe Place when it was released on paperback in 07' and I don't remember it being this bad. There were parts that somewhat captured my attention then, there were parts that were really corny. And, there was too much useless dialogue. I just did not enjoy this book. Pretty sure I'm going to return it.
